FEAR...do you have it?

Well I just downloaded the Single Player demo, installed and went through.
Although I feel the demo was a bit short, I must share my experiences with you all.

First off the game looks great, I dont know for fact since I havent read up on it, but the games runs on the Doom3 engine, or at least, is a complete copy-cat. The gameplay is great, kills are very satisfying, your character gets slow motion or as some of us call "bullet-time". It has a very "doom" feel to it, the flashlight has very high demand, but runs out of battery power rather quickly, BUT, it can be used in conjunction with a gun at the same time. From what I've seen, the story line is very involving, and scary as **** when I played. It felt like UT, RE and PsyOps all the same time. Not to mention the "spirit" element of these freaking little girl that pops up here and there a couple times in the demo, its hard to tell if she's good or bad.

**downside** The game is a resource hog.
The rig I ran it on...

P4 2.6@3.1
x800pro @ 515/1000
gig of Kingston pc3200 - dual channel
Abit IS7-E2

Althought it ran great, there were slow downs. Not frequently, not even occasionally, but still there none the less. I closed out all other apps and alot ot threads to make sure I could get a smooth experience.

Overall from how much I've played, I HAVE to tell you guys to download the demo and give it a try, the full version is expected this fall....Enjoy!

Here you go Robbie.

The engine feels very similer to the Doom3 engine, but with some more elaborate pixel shader effects.

check out http://learn.whatisfear.com that ***** is scary. First, there is a guy dead in his chair near his computer, then a shadow slowly goes past a nearby window, then apparently (didn't get this far, just freaked out after the shadow), you get attacked by a girl. It is scary though, it's a point and click flash version but if that's just the online flash demo, the real thing must be even scarier. It's from Japan but made by Sierra.

The opening sequence and looking at the character models gives it the D3 feel.
But much like D3, this game also is very dark (literally) becuase the engine is unable to render frames quick enough when its in a lighted enviroment.

I think its more your computer that is unable to render frames quick enough when its lighted

Runs like butter for me, only played for about 5 mins, but looked pretty cool. Gave me kind of a half life 1 atmosphere, in half life 2 graphics. Quite like it.

I have been told that the multiplayer part is going to be the next counter-strike. I doubt that, but it must be pretty good.

Ive been trying to upload this to the AOA files section but am having issues. Will notify when its available there.

The MP side of things is nothing to scream about.

It's ok, but if I want DM, I'll play UT.

OK, the F.E.A.R. Single Player Demo is now up on AOAfiles. Check the files frontpage or the main frontpage for a download link. Nice and fast and free, all 647MB of it

I think the developpers still have some work ahead of them. In this short demo i've seen some imperfections. The first enemy i encountered received a headshot from my handgun which resulted in his complete explosion. Rather destructive for a handgun don't you say?
It only happened once though.
Shooting on a wall results in a hole and shooting that hole again resulted in another hole near the one i shot to change back in a normal piece of wall.
It is only a demo of course
So far the demo has impressed me too but i had to tweak down on the graphics. I seem to be needing some upgrading, my 9700 pro is getting old
