What is this thing?

I thought it was a pattern for the 'game of life' (like 'the glider' for instance) but I tried it out and it was nothing special.

Is it some way of displaying the date? Am I way behind the times? Will it make my life grand and wonderful?

Next to the date on the front page. Its at the top right of the main section.

Well if we look at it in binary, the top row gives 4, and the bottom two both give 1

so that could be 4/11 which is today's date, but that would mean that the largest day that could be displayed would be 7. perhaps more rows get added and I have never noticed it. Who shall explain this mystery?

Maybe the first row signifys the day of the week, that would explain why there are only 7 combinations.

Gee, I didn't think of that. Maybe it starts the week on a Tuesday?

If we count the blank, or white squares as "1" and the blues as "0" I get 3 for the top row, and 4 for the bottom two. I'm not sure how these could relate to the date though.

I think it is some secret code that is makeing fun of me for not being able to figure it out. Or perhaps it means nothing and was just ment to look neat.

If I ignor the first "character" and convert it into ASCII using the blanks as 0 and the blues as 1 I get "d", if the blanks are 1 and the blues 0 it doesnt work.

If I do the same conversion but ignor the last "character" I get "2" with the blanks as 0 and "Í" with the blanks as 1.

Can you make anything of that?

It doesn't really make sense for it to be ASCII, there are already symbols for that (read: characters). I think I'm stumpped, I'm just going to wait for somoene on the front page secret society to comment.
