AT&T Yahoo DSL!

i got a job, at a place i swore i'd never go back to. the local Telemarketing Call Center. Thankfully i'm not on credit cards, but am on the DSL side i'll be selling to the people in California who have AT&T or SPC telephones. So if you fit that bill one of the Telemarketers you'll talk to is ME! i'm actually learning a good bit about DSL.

You could call me!

Oh, wait. I don't live in California and I already have AT&T DSL service.

Well, whatever, you could still call me.

I'll tell you what; call me, and sign me up. Then, when I can't get it because the phone lines where I live are too old, the DSL guys will force them to upgrade the phone lines, so I can get DSL!

i unfortunately don't get to decide who i call, you gotta be a person who has SBC or the now AT&T for their phone company, then my supervisor is given a list of numbers of those customers to be dialed and us "lucky" telemarketers talk or try to talk the customers into getting DSL.

I'm in the same boat as Repo Man. It wouldn't take any talking to get me to buy DSL, just new phone lines. The ones that are on my road now quite literally date from the 50s.

Why can't I get DSL!!!!!

i've actually learned a couple new neat things, about a form of networking using the pre-existing phone lines in the house to network your computers, you need an expensive adapter though. and also that you're able to network with USB cables as well. i've never even heard of those networking options before.

I'd imagine the phone line networking works similarly to DSL, using bandwidth outside of the frequency range of the telephone service (I forget the ranges now). Yeah, you can network with USB, the limitation is distance; the USB spec is limited at 5 meters.

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/dsl.htm That explains a lot about DSL. I love Howstuffworks.

the frequncy for the phone networking is about 3 mhz higher than even DSL is and that's about a mhz higher than regular phone talking is

Telephone is 300 Hz to 3 kHz for audio.

You can buy D-Link plugs which have an Ethernet port in them. You plug your Ethernet into the plug, and the plug into the Wall Socket. As long as the two your joining together are on the same power circuit, it works fine.

ADSL is about 25KHz to 1.1MHz. VDSL is about 300Khz - 30MHz. ADSL2 goes from about 140KHz up to about 2.2MHz.

One problem with phoneline networking (HPNA) is that if you have a device that will eat a DSL signal without a filter, it'll also eat a phoneline networking signal without a filter.

Lastly, HPNA2 runs on the spectrum between 4MHz and 10MHz. It's primary carrier is at 7MHz, and it operates between 2Mbaud and 4MBaud.

HPNA3 promises 240MBit/sec. The downside is that the standard has been ratified since June 2003, but there are no consumer devices using it.

Thank ya gizmo, I can never remember anything useful. But if you want to know how much juice boxes (those mini-carton dealers) costed in 5th grade, I do remember that ($0.35).
