| My Vision ? I'm one of those people who decides for months what kit to buy and then when I do decide, the price goes down by 50% a week later. I've also got the hex when I try and overclock anything and what usually happens is the machine goes slower or won't boot at all. I'm jinxed! I've burnt out cpu's in the past and fried graphic cards in my quest to obtain the unobtainable. To me anyway! Have you smelt the smell of fried silicon? (Is smelt right?) Well I have too many time and billy wizz couldn't wreck a chip faster than me.So i've joined the AOA in a hope that I can learn the black art of getting these damn machines to work faster that their lazy stock specs. bang for bucks. I've had plenty of bangs that cost loads of bucks but that stops as of now! There i've got that off my chest. hello peeps!

| Hey Jinker. Good to have you around. I think we can help you in your overclocking endevors. Or atleast we can all sit around and bang our heads together and wonder why it didn't work. BTW Smelt can either be a noun, as in a small freshwater fish about 6 inches long that makes real good bait. Or it can be a verb, as in melting ore to extract metal. The word you are looking for is smelled. And I have never smelled burning silicon execpt from a montior that went up in flames, litteraly. I have crushed a cpu core installing a heat sink. Killed a GPU core the same way. And once I pulled a heatsink off of a cpu and the core was stuck to the bottom of the HSF. I hate it when that happens.

| Hi, Guy's. I found a very useful thread in that it's about an athlon 64 3700mhz and as that's my cpu, it's given me a lot of good information. Well I've managed to wreck another motherboard and had to replace it quickly with an el cheapo replacement. I got the AsRock Sata2 Duel for £35 as I wanted to use my AGP card for the time being. The board sucks imho and it won't be long until I get something better to try. No offence intended to anyone who may have this mobo and thinks otherwise? It's a bit pointless me trying to overclock this setup as i've already sold the board to a mate as he needs it for a cheap second machine. This is a great site and you even get english language classes for free Smelled it is then! I look forward to receiving the water from the well of knowledge and feel at home already.

I've 2 sata and 2 ide drives. the ide drives work fine? I rang the supplier and they've given me a rma number to send the board back to check it out. Knowing my luck they will not find anything wrong with it? and charge me for postage and wasting their time So I needed a board to keep the old pc/work ticking along. Hence the asrock sata duel. Cheaper than my Abit AV8. This is normality for me. I've a bad record with part failures and overclocking disasters. In fact if you speak to Paul my mate about the stuff i've wrecked he'll rotfl at the stories of whoa and disaster! I can't even get the software overclocking stuff provided by the likes of gigabyte to work properly without overheating a video card or something? Jinker the Jinx! ![]()

| Ive blown up 3 power supplies this week...LONG STORY. An OCZ ModStream. An Enlight 350W. And an old school 200W AT PSU. And borked a video card. Gigabyte 9600XT ViVo. But I think that was faulty when I got to it.

I've virtually spent my life savings on computer bits which I got bored of within six months, then looked for something else. Sell it on and upgrade was my moto. But I'm older and wiser now, and there's not a lot that excites me the same way these days. I don't do games but as i've got kids they like to play the latest stuff. My daughters machine is my cast off 3200mhz Athlon, which when I think about it is more than useful to play the likes of sims 2 on. It's an addiction of sorts I guess? Expensive but it's been like this for a long time. That's why I would love to get some more bang for my bucks as I would feel I gained something over and above. Power to the people and such like... Do others feel the same way? jinker the jinx ![]()

| I have no idea how all of you blow all your stuff up, somehow my PC still boots (even if the ram doesn't work right ). ANyway welcome jinker, do you mean an AMD 3200+ or an AMD Overclocked to 3200mhz (3.2Ghz)?

| Well Jinker, I feel your pain on the addiction of upgrade every 6 months. It gets real expensive quick. And now it is getting even worse. The depriciation is rediculous. I have 2 hobbies. One is computing. I buy something for it just goes down down down in value. My other hobby is ameture astronomy. Stuff with that is even more expensive than computing and you get less use out of it. However, when I buy something new I lose about 25% of the value, but it never goes down in value after that. If I buy something used, it never goes down in value after that, and if I decide to sell something the only money I have lost is the cost of shipping.

An AMD Athlon 3200+ with 512mb ram and an old Radeon 8500 graphics card. State of the art in it's day not that long ago?Not overclocked of course as I don't want to kill my daughters PC. She would get mad! I read the other day that these chips are in high demand and fetch a good price on ebay, so I might have to do something about that. My first computer was a MSX which was supposed to be the new standard at the time. I've been down the Atari ST, Amiga 500 & plus, Amiga 600, Sinclair Spectrum (various) Then I discovered the world of PC's an old Elonex 8mhz and that as they say was that. The cash i've spent on bits over the years I dread to think but would I change it? Would I hell. This has been the labour of love that refuses to die down. In fact the PC knowledge gained over the years has made me a load of money as well, with builds and repairs for family, friends etc. I even started selling second hand bits from discarded machines. So there you have it jinker the jinx business guru! I'm not very good at overclocking and can't ever up to now get a stable machine that doesn't die on me somehow. I'm now very wary of trying too much in the overclocking field. Hopefully, after reading all the posts and gaining a better knowledge this will change for the better? I guess I waffle on a bit but I hope you don't mind. Kid in a candy store ![]()

| Hi jinker! Glad to have you with us! Just a few tips now you're here: Try and avoid chrisbard, he's been 'banned' in the past ![]() Belive what captaincurran said, resistance IS futile Farting and burping and common among the mostly male, beer-drinking community so don't worry ![]() And lastly, if you smell something burning, it's likely to be something to do with me. Saying that, welcome!
