because of all this, every BB store is having "meetings" for all of its employee's for "customers confidentiality" making me have to get up early on a saturday morning

In this day and age, if you sell, get rid of, or give away a hard disk, you really must sanitise it properly. Company computers (in particular laptops) go double in this regard.

This chap had no say in the matter though, which is somewhat disappointing.

All it takes is for someone to use Snadboy's Revelation on your saved password in Outlook or Internet Explorer for you to be in extremely serious trouble.

That's the problem though, most people don't know what tools to use to clear it or where to get them. That could be my next delphi project i guess.

DBAN is very good at wiping hard disks. It is bootable from either a floppy or CD and needs no OS installed on the machine. With a little bit of work, it can be bootable from a USB stick too.

If you get into big SCSI arrays, DBAN has been tested wiping 100 disks concurrently on a single host.
