Talking Pay increase - For all UK based workers

Hi all,
i've just been informed by my manager that there is now set to be a new national minimum wage. For 16-18 years olds, the rate will increase from £4.04 to £4.28 per hour and for 18 and over, it will increase from £5.05 to £5.35 per hour. So if you are currntly at the UK national minimum wage, like me, you are due for an increase. This will be effective from 17th september 2006.

For employees of Currys UK (Part of DSGi), there will be no more personal commision. The new way of doing things will be a team bonus scheme. This new scheme will pay out up to 10% of your basic hourly pay rate for on-target store performance. There is also going to be a quartely bonus that will pay out up to 50% of your basic salary for over-achievement of your stores' profit target.

Now i understand that for most of you, this means nothing, but for me, because i work at Currys, this means that if our store acieves more than 120% of their profit target (we are going for 129% this year), i will have a monthly income of £232.00, up from £96.96 (at least this is what i can work out from it, this is the better/worse amount) as well as a quarted bonus of £53.10 and a period bonus of £38.10.

Could today get any better?...

An extra $.24 give you THAT much more money a month?!?!?! Did you double how many hours you work in a month as well?

Yeah, i got something wrong but i was just reading it from the sheet. I think i added the 4-weekly bonus as well as the quater bonues for each month. And it's £0.24, not $0.24.

If i divide my new predicted total pay by 13 (every 4 weeks rather than every month) then i get £117, it's still an extra £21 each time. Ah, apparently there's also and annual review upto 2.5% pay rise. But next spetember, i'll be getting a rise in wages to £5.35 because i'll be over 18 and then maybe a 2.5% rise.

I'm confused.....

Hey Gizmo, I suck! got the benchs done ages ago had trouble with the pic though. In all honesty the review sucked!

And back on topic in a pedantic like mode. Its not really a pay increase for all uk workers, only really those on the min wage or thereabouts. That and for companies that abide by the min wage

I agree Im also glad Im not on hourly wage anymore.
Now in a job I studied for and enjoy.

Having said that previous employer was pretty cool - always payed above min wage (+ staff discount, bonus for unsocial hours, shift meal allowances and transport paid, always a month off - paid, and a summer and winter party paid for by company - all inclusive for all staff regardless of expereince). Also plenty of time of for studying and exams (ok this wasnt paid - but flexibility was there when needed - and yes time off during busy terms times has a big value in my books).

So - ok it wasnt exactly minimum wage, but not far off, and just goes to show that not all low wage jobs are bad and if you find the right place it can be a great expereince.
