Massive surge in disappearance of Arctic sea ice sparks global warning
Arctic meltdown is speeding up, sea ice is vanishing faster than ever before, polar bears face extinction and America's top climate scientist warns we only have a decade to save the planet.

Blefast Telegraph

By Michael McCarthy and David Usbourne
15 September 2006

The melting of the sea ice in the Arctic, the clearest sign so far of global warming, has taken a sudden and enormous leap forward, in one of the most ominous developments yet in the onset of climate change.

Two separate studies by Nasa, using different satellite monitoring technologies, both show a great surge in the disappearance of Arctic ice cover in the last two years.

One, from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, shows that Arctic perennial sea ice, which normally survives the summer melt season and remains year-round, shrank by 14 per cent in just 12 months between 2004 and 2005.
Former US Vice-president Al Gore narrating Davis
Guggenheim's documetary An Inconvenient Truth

The overall decrease in the ice cover was 720,000 sq km (280,000 sq miles) - an area almost the size of Turkey, gone in a single year.....

I watched a show on the bears and if this keeps up most will starve to death. I'm still shocked by some people who think that this is just a cycle which always happens.
There was a doco done in New Zealand on of the lower islands where some lizards live only ones in the world. When there just eggs there is only just 1 degree difference between boys and girls. Hotter being boys, in 2004 75% born were!!!! guess what.... ''BOYS''. They are very worried that in just a few years they will breed out with no girls to keep the spices alive. So I say if they are going to die out how has this ever happened before?

The real problem is that there are two common attitudes to this HUGE problem, one being

"Hey, if I stop, its not going to make any difference"

and the other

"Its not happening, and even if it is, we wont be here when it does"

It is sad

Jah, it's chuste a theory. Maybe the Panama Canal is going to lose a lot of business. All that ice just gets in the way of commerce.

Ack, we're really in trouble. The Japanese and the Norwegians will keep killing whales, sharks will move far north to feed on the polar bear carcasses and the last of the seals and real estate will appreciate in the Arctic. Islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans will drown and Seattle will get a new waterfront. How do we cash in on this change?

This is why I have no faith in the Human Race - we wont even do whats in our own best interest!

It gets even worse than what alot of people think.
If we continue to generate the levels of waste heat we are currently, with the addition of huge amount of greenhouse gasses which are currently in the atmosphere (and being added to daily), the temperature will actually go beyond the Earths capacity to recover - ever, Earth will end up like Venus. Not only will certain animals that we depend on indirectly for our food sources, but most probably ourselves as well.

It is actually in our best interest as a race to stop pollution, and institute heavy penalties for pollution producing goods / pollution producing manufacturing. Infact to remove petroleum based products (especially diesel, petrol, etc) completely.

Perhaps the big question is: will the Earth be able to recover after Mother Nature does away with us? If not can't it be said that the human race was a mistake? With no one to ask the question... Turning this planet into another Venus, what a legacy.

I heard this yesterday;
" at her current rate of development in 30 years China will need a entire second Planet Earth in resources."

I can't wait until they start making them!
