Now you see the invisibility cloak... now you don't

No, really. You won't see it to believe it. The UK Times recently reported that, using the principles developed by a British scientist, scientists across the pond in Duke University were able to create what is said to be the world's first "invisibility cloak".

Students of Hogwarts, Klingons and Romulans, members of MI-6 and FOXHOUND, whoever constructed Leasath's Glepnir sky fortress, acolytes of Nod, and teenagers everywhere who want to sneak out for some midnight fun, you may want to pay attention....

They made a cloak of invisibility years ago, they just can't remember where they last left it.

Is it better to be invisible or forgotten? I'll take forgotten any day...that way they never go looking for you...is this the kind of conversation normal people have? I'm trying to fit in.":O}

I'd like to see them pull it off as it would be quite a feat of technology to manage even the basic 'cloak' the principle as they put it has been around since time itself, however doing it has been rather tricky.

Fear not though, Light is an easy part of the EM spectra, being able to deflect all frequencies uniformaly simultaniously will be nigh on impossible.

For now it will only be usefull for static objects things that move will mess it up / be detectable.

There is also the small matter of hiding humans you'd have to hide the infra red signature as well (lots and lots of thermal insulation)

That and multi point sonar / radar would catch them to. Though we dont all have that sort of equipment, when you see leaves rustle but nobody there, throw a rock!

its a fascinating technology and I agree its gonna be tough to get it useful.
The US military will love this though, it could even stop the UFO sightings!

Or you make a big one, wrap it around a tank, get crap-loads of sound insulation and voila. You have a stealth machine.

Edit; They could even put it around a country if they really wanted.

North Korea? What North Korea? =O
