I'm thinking if it did, iTunes would become the number 1 online music shop?

gee, I wonder why jobs is saying this??

As much as I like apple, they are just out to make money, like pretty much every other company.

I think the whole situation is a bit of a mess right now. The sooner they all get their act together, the better.

DRM is pretty pointless considering it is easy to workaround. You can't stop a pirate so easily. Oooh Arrr!

DRM is a fools errand. It only affects people who use legal services and it only affects those who don't just buy a hard copy.

I still buy physical cd's becase I like to have the product and I like to keep my cd racks filled a bit like some keep book shelfs filled. I never play the cd beyond it's first rip and I get to enjoy playing it anywhere in the home and out and about.

The same for dvd's. Beyond the initial rip the disc goes on a shelf and stays there.

They are all so scared of someone getting something for nothing that they punish the wrong people. You can't force people to do the right thing through such draconian measures. True fans want the real deal and those that don't aren't your market so forget that they are getting it for free and reward those that pay your mortgage.

Timeline of events:

*Microsoft launches Vista, goes to amazing lengths to explain to the world that DRM is your friend, and is opening up your computer to amazing new media experiences.

*His Holiness, Steve, issues a fatwah declaring DRM "Teh_sux"

*Everyone applauds, because for once Steve might be on to something. Prius driving, panda saving, turtleneck wearing, Microsoft hating Steventologists world wide organize a climate neutral gathering at which point they decide to support Teh_Fuhrer in all things and hop on the anti-DRM bandwagon, after convicing all their friends DRM was great back when Apple /was/ in favour of it.

I think Apple are also paranoid that they might get their butts kicked right out of countries like Germany and Norway. The lawyers are on the case. They've got a way with it for as long as they could.

Meanwhile, they get away with a lot of their underhand tatics to keep competitors out in the USA. But, Bush and Co. generally turn a blind eye to foul play if your a big money making corp. They want all the corps to have their HQs in the US.
