Pretty big factors in the muzic biz are complaining about DRM. Perhaps the music empires are flailing for a change. Their business model is making them extinct, and they pay artists next to nothing, or so I'm told.

The most successful e-commerce companies are new and have no "real world" presence or very little, e.g. e-bay, newegg, amazon, etc.

Those sites can compete all out with traditional shops and aren't restricted.

Meanwhile, the big traditional chains and businesses are less succesful on the internet. Their problem is that they don't want to harm their existing off-line businesses. So, their e-commerce efforts are always a compromise and fail to compete with 100% net based businesses.

You can't help but think that DRM is simply a means for the big four record labels to stiffle the growth of sites like iTunes. It does nothing to prevent piracy and I can't believe that they really are so dumb they can't see that.
