Quake lifts island 10 metres

Source --> http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070407...F8np6Dex0DW7oF

Quote:
The seismic jolt that unleashed the deadly Solomons tsunami this week lifted an entire island metres out of the sea, destroying some of the world's most pristine coral reefs.

In an instant, the grinding of the Earth's tectonic plates in the 8.0 magnitude earthquake Monday forced the island of Ranongga up three metres (10 foot).
That is a huge lift !!!!!

That was 10 feet, not 10 meters.

I'll never catch on to this metric system stuff.

It is still a huge lift in my book. I couldn't imagine the ground rising 10 FEET.

Maybe Mother Nature likes this island. Sea level will rise, ten feet is a great bonus.

I was going to say, the islanders will appreciate this once global warming gets into full swing.

"The stench of rotting fish and other marine life stranded on the reefs when the seas receded is overwhelming and the once vibrant coral is dry and crunches underfoot."

It is, but who sais that 10 feet up in one sudden earthquake can't become 10 feet down through similar circumstances?
It might be a blessing, but it might be a death trap too.

Nothing is meant to last.... if we lasted longer it would be easier to see that.
