Needless to say, I'm going to be fairly scarce for the next few days. Actually, about as scarce as I have been the last few days.

I didn't find the old server too slow, but more BHP never goes amiss! And ofcourse the better value is brilliant news for AOA!

We're still on the old server, don't get too far ahead!

Just you wait, soon we will be going at warp factor 5.

AOA has actually been very lucky, as its always had very high quality servers and an extremely reliable connection, coupled with an admin team that would not go astray in any top tier IT company, but keeping up to date is one of those things that you have to keep on top of, as after a certain point, you're still paying the same money for three year old servers, as you were paying for them when they were brand new, while with declining costs and new technologies, far superior servers are available new for much better value.

So aside from the added room to grow, its another major investment in AOA's future.

For a preview of the migration process from Gizmo's point of view:

Quote:
"Sweetheart, throw a case of Dr. Pepper in the fridge... this is going to be a big weekend."

"Oh.. how cool is that... this works quite well... damn this is fast"

"MOTHER****ER dependency missing my %$#@ING ASS"

"Do you want to get RMed? Is that it? Piece of %$#@ I'll RM your ass if you don't play ball"

"Oh.. well that worked ok. What about..."

Good question, but I'll let someone more experienced in that area tell you.

Now, panic-stricken, Gizmo calls Aidan, the God of All Things Server Related, who has a couple of jokes at Gizmo's expense and then has compassion for poor Gizmo and says "Fear not, for I HAVE BACKUPS"
And thus, now you know what RM does to a server.

And may Dsio find another spider on his derrier

Which is why dsio always uses absolute paths when he 'rm -rf's :P

Also shows why its helpful to have Aidan around. He even keeps carbon copies of his grade 3 history assignments in storage, just in case.

rm is the unix 'remove' command, equivalent to the dos 'del' command.
