Negroponte’s laptop finally in production

Looks like we supported this project while it still helped poor kids. WinXP kills the OLPC program, IMHO.

I honestly cannot understand why on earth they would put WinXP on these machines...the only reason windows is big here is because it's got the market. In an undeveloped region, there is no reason I can think of to use a proprietary OS.

Besides money, of course. As said, M$ isn't stupid. They know that if they get 100's of thousands of children growing up with their OS, when their country is developed they're going to use Windows.

Sad....I should've donated sooner. My paypal account was giving me nightmares, and I guess I just didn't care enough to get it sorted out. I feel like an ass, now. I missed my opportunity to make a difference, and I'm sure as hell not going to finance M$'s infiltration into the developing market.

Major thanks to M$, they've really helped this project along. There are many good causes that need donations, should the enthusiasm and wallet stuffedness present themselves.

I think, right now the OLPCs are still Linux based.

Ya know when we started this they had fixed goals one of them being...:

I'll have rather Strong feelings about it if those goals shift to the creation of another resource for MS and her rather despicable sister corps.
