Jason Hiner
ZDNet UK

When Microsoft released its earnings report to Wall Street on 25 October, it surprised investors and the technology industry by reporting its best rate of revenue growth (27 percent) for a quarter since 1999. Microsoft credited its revenue growth to strong demand for Windows Vista, Microsoft Office 2007, and Halo 3.

Linux? Forget about it. If Linux was going to make a move on the business desktop market, it would have happened years ago.
How many years ago? How about Three years before Linus was born? If a Tiger was going to kill it's owner it would have years ago! Tell that to Roy!

If Linux as it was years ago was worthy, it would have been adopted. Business didn't find it useful. Given my abilities, nor did I!

But times change and with them their demands. Linux now meets my needs...for the most part,,,":O} Whose needs it meets tomorrow depends upon the Linux community, not some ass backwards crystal ball...":O}

Ya think that all three products were lumped together? My guess is that if viewed all by itself, Vista is a money loser.

Negative, vista is going to generate a lot of sales with new computers now shipping with it.

however... the number of people I have seen use vista and go back to xp is really high. so the actual userbase is probably considerably smaller.

The difference between Fedora 8 and Fedora 4 (just two years ago) is huge, and development is increasing at an exponential rate. People like Gizmo who have been windows devs since the dinosaurs roamed didn't find it particularly usable as a workstation a few years ago, but now with mutli cores, large amounts of ram, and virtualization technology, things have changed.

As far as businesses not being interested goes, they may not be using it on the desktop, but 75% of the world's top 500 supercomputers use it, while at the complete opposite end of the power chart, smartphones and even the TiVo box that many people have in their homes runs it. If you have a TiVo, a NAS box, or Motorola smartphone, you're probably using it without even knowing it.
