I've done some experimentation recently, and haven't come up with any conclusive evidence that burning a cpu in does much of anything... CPU use over several months may help lower voltages and temps, but doesn't seem to increase the overclocking abilities of the chip... just helps it run cooler once it's had some use.

Wow it's scary that the world of computers moves so fast that someone that has only been into this for like 9 months or whatever is considered old school (I've never like that saying)

As for burning in, I do this right after the sacrifice of a virgin rabbit to the oc gods, but just before blessing the new chip with holy AS
I'm just kidding I neither beleive nor disbeleive in burning in, I've never seen any positive results from it as there are too many variables to take into account when I've tryed it, and until I see some science I won't be trying it in the future.

I dont really believe burning in works. but i have observed a PC "bed in" as in my last few PC's 1st week after put togeather, loads of crashes etc, a few weeks later almost 100% stable..... spose it could be classed as burning in.... but wasnt done with the same aim as burning in, which is sorta a harsh way of getting same thing i think

Was that a subtle way of saying that my coments on burning in went a little too far? As I was only kidding and did say how I neither disbeleive or beleive that it works, I feel that those that dismiss it are as bad as those who feel it's like breaking a new pair of shoes in or something.
I hope no one got offended by what I said as it wasn't in any way meant as a personel attack.
Or were you just kidding dan?

No pinky in the long run I can see that working for an OC. I have heard of people that have lowered the OC of the CPU because the CPU got to hot and wouldn't run that that mhz again.

I might be wrong about this but that is the way I am seeing it but I am open for input.

Well I tell you all, In my expirience a brand spanking new CPU will not overclock as high as one that has run a CPU intensive application for a few hours. If we really want to hear about any extensive testing on the subject, maybe we should ask wild_andy_c. I understand he sees a lot of CPUs in his line of work.

Well I can tell you that in my experience that my brand spanking new cpu overclocked as well as it does after 9 months of use, I did try a burn in procedure and I also aplyed Artic silver during it which meant that my results couldn't be atributed to either conclusively but I did seem to be able to run at a lower voltage, either from the AS or from the burn in, I don't know, but I couldn't overclock any more and it's not a cooling issue it had just reached it's peak.
There are too many variables to be able to say conclusively why some people seem to get better results after a 'burn-in' than before, and a lot could probabally be put down to human error.
