Massive Offshore Wind Park to Power Delaware Homes by 2012

Written by Daniel

In the quest to make wind power less obtrusive, some companies are deploying their products in creative new ways
Jason Mick (Blog) - June 24, 2008 5:08 PM

DailyTech

The push for wind power is gaining almost as much momentum as the solar power push. The key challenge to wind power is location. While some efforts, such as billionaire T. Boone Picken's new wind farm merely look to build on sparsely populated areas, others have looked to place mini windmills on buildings or elsewhere. [Front page...]

How about this tower block which creates all it's energy via built-in wind turbines?

Boy....I sure have a few reservations about this one....the problems... seem huge.... Be great if they pull it off...I'm betting on a "partial" success...this seems a large leap....first impressions! LOL

I assume you are talking about the building concept that Danrok posted?

Yeah, I've got my reservations about that one as well. For one thing, structural integrity would seem to be a real issue, given that the whole thing moves, meaning that weight distribution could be continually changing on a rather large scale.

An apartment need not weigh as much as a traditionally built one. I'm referring to the concrete walls and floor slabs.

This system for concrete slabs uses plastic balls to make the slab much lighter:
BubbleDeck - the Biaxial Hollow Deck

It also allows for buildings to have lightweight façades, with no concrete, which makes the building less likely to collapse.

Hey I hope it works! Depending on design it may not be so great a leap as it appears... but damn, that merry go round was broke most of the time! As you can see it left an impression! LOL
