Speed Increase

Our dial-up users should see a great speed increase if they use HTTP 1.1 compatible browsers (like IE 6.0). I fiddled with some settings, and now the pages will come to you compressed by about 10 times. This will speed up your downloads tremendously (I hope ). You will notice nothing different except the increased speed.

Let me know if this is actually working or not; it's hard to tell with cable

Does HTTP 1.1 apply lossless compression to Binary too, or just ASCII?

Only ASCII, as far as I know. What it basically does is take a HTML, XML, textfiles, etc. and packs them up into something like tarball format. It is highly optimized though and hence can compress up to 90% or something. For more information, look up mod_gzip on the web; it's usually compiled into Apache.

While I'm announcing improvements, you can also now download Private Messages. Simply select the ones you wish to download and click the download button.

"Note: Nearly all browsers made after 1999 support HTTP 1.1."

Cool! That means practically everyone benefits!

When you download them, what do you download them as? And I'm assuming you download to your computer?

It will package them into a .txt file with an evident seperation using ======================

and then it will do like you're downloading any other file to your computer. Give it a try; it doesn't delete them.

/me is testing the new /me feature.

Try it by typing /me and then what ever you are doing. For instance: /me is surfing the forums; then it will substitute your name for /me.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will not get the speed increase if you click the text links to forums and threads. You need to click the highlighted background to get the speed increase. We are working to fix this. Thanks for your support.
