Bingo Wings

Another silly thread in my attempt to WAKE THIS PLACE UP!

The topic is euphemisms, phrases, words etc which conjure up strange mental images and just plain make you laugh. This thread is purely to torture Wa11y should he be brave enough to venture in.

Bingo wings. These are the flabby, wrinkly bits of leftover flesh that fat or just older untoned people get under their arms. This phrase to me instantly conjures up a room full of grannies standing up waving their arms yelling Bingo with said bits waving about joyfully! hehehehe bingo wings, pure class.

Another one that made Wa11y shudder was Caramel Apple Granny, a pudding that was on offer in the pub I had lunch in last week. The waitress didn't quite know how to cope with a table full of people laughing at the image of a granny with an apple in her mouth, dipped in caramel and served on a stick.

I also can no longer hear the word dangle without laughing. This is because I instantly think of Random Nonsense sitting with a pizza swinging from his mouth by one long piece of cheese. Don't ask, it was due to a disturbing conversation on msn where he was talking about stretchy cheese and the word dangle which I seem to remember he devoted a thread to a while back. My brain works in strange ways ok!

What words or phrases make you giggle and why? That's the important bit, why!?!?! (which means write something long so i don't look so wordy any more).

I guess not. Not that I expected it to.

But it will be interesting to see what others come up with.

Some phrases from the England of my youth simply slay me. "Stood there like a lemon." Love it!

I've been trying to figure out "Stood there like a lemon," but I just can't seem to grasp what that might be a euphenism for. Same with "Fancy Catsup." I don't think I've ever heard that used as a euphenism for anything. Someone please edumacate me.

"Stood or sat there like a lemon" isn't much of a metaphor or euphemism. It means that a person stood there, sat there, whatever, like an idiot and didn't understand what was going on. And what was going on was impossible to miss.

There are lots of "Britishism's" that I love. Lets face it, they've been speaking English a lot longer than we have. And Welsh and Gaelic and who know's, too.

As a rule, Americans are clumsy with English. We wave a club while the English wield an epee. There are illiterate folks on both sides of the Atlantic, yet more of them seem to be here.
