Xtreme Boredom... is it just me?

You know you're bored when....
you start looking forward to SPAM.
or... your highlight of the day is a Virus Update.

Don't know if it's just me, but the last month or so I seem to be getting soooooo bored with the internet. No really earth breaking news in the hardware dept. No mind shattering new software... It's like we've reached a plateau or something.

Maybe it's something to do with finally having an o/s and a system that are pretty much bullet proof. Nothing crashes, all programs work very well.

So, is it just me? If it is, maybe I will seek professional web help. LOL... If not, maybe we (I) need to come up with something totally new.

Seeing as I use the net primarily to talk to people, and only interesting people stay on my contact lists for any length of time, I don't get bored on the net unless there's no one online. Like now!

bored is an understatement. I can't remember the last time I was 'impressed' by something I saw on the web. Like new parts for example. ohhhhhh, woooooowwwwww. there's a new insmell chip and a faster video card. I think I may soil myself. Not to say that the advancement of technology doesn't interest me, but I haven't really seen anything so bold and exciting that it's made me raise a brow in quite some time. After my drives crashed out and I lost everything last week, I haven't even been able to find a 'kewl new' proggy to DL. My latest thing is de-micro$ofting windows. I've done about all I can there....whats next? maybe someone can port macromedia and adobe products for me so I can leave the M$ nightmare alone

If I can get ANY linux distro to act like a windows version, I'll never go m$haft again. I really need a tutor or something. I'm really disgusted by the $hafters. Don't get me wrong, they have a great product and have made a tremendouns impact on the computeing world...I just don't like them trying to place their thumb on me. Guess thats why I run only 'my' versions of winders

Yeah, I went the Penguin route 3 or 4 times... always got out of it when I realized there weren't any proggies that I use ported for it. Dreamweaver, Photoshop, you know. Cool games, tho. Hardly enough to justify using up a partition. Learned some command line. hehe.. always loved it when I had to reconfigure all my peripherals by hacking the config files.

I think my operating system is the cause for a lot of my boredom. i feel like I'm stuck on Windows because there's really no viable alternative. I've tried several distros, most of which have lasted an amazing 1 hour. Mandrake and Red Hat are the two I like, Drake a bit more. Maybe I'll just dual boot it and go at it till I get it, then dumnp windows. Hell, I dunno...I DO know I needa change though

Ditto that, I found the linux side of the pool to be a little deep on the programming side... I really hate code, but adapt VERY well to windows type environments . Must be a middle-brained person

Excellent way to describe it Pinky. Its just a bit 'too deep in the programming' I can make Windows do backflips, but I had a hard time getting linux to act instead of react. Maybe drake 9.0 will be a bit better. Speakin of which.. I better DL that puppy

Hey Orbit, as for the boredom..... Just post your IP addy and we'll see if we can liven thing up a bit for you.

I'm still in a wrestling match with old Tux. I want so badly to run my server with a linux distro. but every time I try I fail to get me network set up properly. All I can think about is if one of the boxes is trying to send a F@H work unit back.

I really do like the fact that after 10+ years I'm at a level where I feel I can figure out most any problem windows presents. Like stated before I loathe the fact that Billy has me under his thumb.

Oh well, maybe we can stir up some excitement here on the forum in the next day or so.

I think I'm going to part my drive and go the Drake route again tomorrow. I'll still have my XP cushon, but I'll also have some linux to tinker with also. I too am dying to get out from under this heavy thumb, but it seems to be the toughest fight I've ever been in. I've been either knocked out or TKO'd every time so far. Maybe I'll bite on an ear and see if I can stay afloat longet than a month this time

I'm running 100% Mandrake 9.0 beta1. I even moved all my MP3's over to the Linux (ext3) partition! It's worth it; there are some awesome skins for KDE 3.0 that make it look much better than Winblows ever looked. Plus Evolution kicks for email and Gaim is the coolness. And how can one forget Mozilla!

I just dled beta3, I think I'll upgrade to that and get Java support in Mozilla

(Java is compiled using GCC 2.96 while Mandrake 9 will ship with either GCC 3.1x or 3.2x. Originally they compiled the Mozilla package with GCC 3.1x, but in beta2 and later they just compiled it with GCC 2.96 for Java compatibility. Java can't be compiled with GCC 3.1x since it isn't GPLed)

hmmm speaking of de-MSing windows i need a new bootup logo.... maybe we should have a contest to go along with all the other contests

i'm almost never bored, as long as i can find someone stupider than me to laugh at (not ignorant though, i help the ignorant quite a bit) and i'm sorry to say most people i see day to day are stupider than me

SM i got a few IPs you can bug it would be especially nice if you sent a bunch of "net send"s to them..... i also know of a few unix accounts that have world RW access but i'm not Propogating such a Maligant thing as that....

and how come i dont get any spam??? (i did get 1 today though, but it was pretty sorry, they messed up an HTML tag so the whole thing had html interspersed throught, and it was bad code too)

Ah... spam. Now, there's a subject I could rant about. I wonder how many ignorant people actually get results using these tactics? I used to get from 100 to 200 a day on my original email account I've had for around 5 years, but when I killed that account, the junk has dwindled to about a handful a day.... so much that at first I thought OE had died.. hehe..

I mean, my body parts are already in proportion, I'm not complaining; and Viagra isn't needed, and I'm not interested in making a million a month using my home computer, and I don't need real estate or mortgage assistance...
I remember when the worst thing we had to deal with was stupid chain letter type junk. Or forwarded junk.

Ah. I'm sure I'll be in a better mood tomorrow, hopefully, at least.

;0)

I'm DL'n the 9.0 beta ISO's right now. Almost done actually. Found a sweet server pumping out 300+ kbps so it's flying! When you say you're 100% Mandrake, what are you using (if you are even) to make web pages and such? And what is Gaim, btw? (sorry, I'm an xtreme n00b to linux) I use Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Photoshop. Without them I'm pretty much lost. I'll likely go the dual boot route today with Drake just to have my backup cushon of winders. I may just have to get in touch with you at some point for a 'helping hand' so to speak. THe more positive results I hear from the Linux comminuty, the more it makes me wanna leave ole Billy Boy on the side of the road to be eaten by the vultures.

well if that doesn't suck the mightiest of eggs! The Mandrake ISO's are over 700mb each, and I don't have any blanks to accomodate them. CRAPOLA! 718 and 720mb is too high for an overburn for an OS install IMO. Guess I'll have to go get some blanks now... awwww poop

If you guys get bored at night, you guys could "volunteer" to post a few more jokes in the joke topic. Sometime next week I'll be gone for almost 2 weeks again. One of you really bored guys could volunteer to maintain the topic while I'm gone.
