Run F@H on the servers?

Just a thought. We all know that folding uses the idle time of a server right? And there is a linux port of f@h. install it on our two dedicated servers?

Just a thought?

The issues I see are extra heat produced and those little 1u unit, can they handle 100% load all the time? And the stress on the componetnets?

Or perhapsj ust let it run say 6 hours a day?

I dont think we really need it , whaty are the specs on the servers anyway,(usually they are pretty low tech) they prolly wouldn't fold all that great anyway

With so much depending upon them, I rather not stress them Spode.

Not worth the hassle. If I remember correctly, the servers don't have much CPU horsepower... that's not what they were meant for anyway. We can NOT afford to have our site go down under any circumstances!!!.

If it helps, I'll look extra hard for more rigs to sign up, lol

assuming I get a job after christmas(pretty safe assumption) then I will be building a rackmount F@H server enviroment for the team and as a science project. Been discussing this with SpeeDJ at oc.com who will be be doing a SETI/Folding Farm. Will look more like Stereo racks(black carpet and all) but should be cool. Hoping to have a four to five computer rack with at least Durons in them, if not a couple of better ones)

You're right Spode,
It's been getting reeeally quiet around here for a while now.

Hopefully, everyone will spend their christmas money seeding their folding farms .

Well I've just upgraded the motherboard on my machine to an ECS k7s5a and gonna get some DDR memory after christmas when prices come down.

I cna FINALLY rebuild my test-bed and that will be another folding machine. And I think I'll stick it on out 866 internet server as well.

I've turned ito ff on my mcahine at the momment while I figure out whats wrong with it.

I have decided that in fact ACPI may be the problem causing sound skipping. Should I turn it off? Hm. I'll make a post....

its doable, and i dont thingk it would hurt them or cause them to be unstable, but you would need to config them to loat it at startup or atleased beable to execute it rometly.

I have it on good authority there will be an XP in my stocking this year. Not sure which one yet.

That means I will have to build another box soon to house the the leftover CPU after the big CPU shuffle.

My 1.4 goes to the wife's box.
Her 1.0 goes to the server for now.
The Duron gets set aside waiting for a new build.
The 450 K6-2 has been idle for a while now as the 1.2g H/D died on me several weeks ago. It was only 7 years old. I can't imagine what went wrong.
