1600+ vs Barton 2500

dang! that extra cache on the Barton must be sumthin. the 2500 is
folding the same Gromacs EIGHT, yes 8 hours faster than the 1600+.
this is not overclocked and definately not scientific testing. just what
I see with EMIII.
looks like I might change my mind for the next build.

Got to agree. This isn't that scientific either but I've got an XP1700 at 2202 and an XP2500 at 2290. The 1700 was running 2 cores and the 2500 3 cores. On a P340 the results were

XP1700 - 9 mins 24 secs per frame
XP2500 - 8 mins 16 secs per frame.
This is taking the total frame time and dividing by 2 or three depending on the number of cores running.

Adjusting ther 2500 back to a clock speed of 2202 it shows a time of 8 mins 57 secs which works out about 6% quicker.

This doesnt take into account the inefficiency of running more than one core so if I get a chance I'll compare that sometime as well.

Mine at home must be disconnected from the internet, as I'm not putting out any work. Either that, or the new Barton has crashed. Its only @ 3000+ so nothing fancy just yet.

I can throw in my results when I get 'em. But 6% faster sounds about right..

Interesting, I'm having real problems uploading completed WU's at the moment. Got seven or eight in the queue now. So much fun on 56k

Strange, could that be it? Perhaps it is just not uploading work. I think it has just been disconnected though. It happends quite a lot.

I should have left it prime'ing to test for stability with the new CPU instead...

Apparently the servers have been moved to a new building and there are/have been a number of problems. Reading between the lines there may well be a considerable backlog in work to be uploaded.
