Post FAH 5 Oneclick/Service Installer

Well, I finally found a decent installer program.

This version of the oneclick installer DOES NOT use the srvany.exe file found with the overclockers.com version. One less program running in the background .

All instructions are inside the zip file. EM (Electron Microscope) works with this installer, feel free to use it.
Tested only with Windows XP Home/Pro, and WIN2k Pro.

EDIT: Also available now is an installer for HT-enabled setups or for non-HT dually setups, hence the "2x" in the file name.

EDIT2: Updated with disclaimer concerning this

EDIT3: An installer for dually, HT-enabled setups. (using four consoles) is now available.

EDIT4: An installer for Single CPUs that will not recieve the "big packets" is now available, thus FAH will only take up about 20mb of ram, instead of 150mb, hence the "(nobig)" in the file name.

Here they are:
Attached Files
File Type: zip FAHv5.00_Service_Installer.zip (226.9 KB, 210 views)
File Type: zip 2x_FAH5_Service_Installer.zip (228.0 KB, 86 views)
File Type: zip 4x_FAH5_Service_Installer.zip (229.6 KB, 54 views)
File Type: zip FAH5_Service_Installer_(nobig).zip (227.1 KB, 105 views)

Awesome job, RM1! Thank you very much.

I'd like to try this out when I get a chance. How about writing a small how-to, including screenies etc?

This should be in the AOA Files. And perhaps a front page link would be in order?

Good idea, but we're migrating the team45 site into the new AOA front page design in a little bit. Updated are kind of on hold until then, but perhaps this is in fact the one thing worth of an exception.

what do you mean by a how-to?

do you mean how i created it, etc ... or how to run it?

if how to run it, all instructions are in the zip file. if any vital information is missing from the zip file, let me know and i'll update it.

BTW, if you want to change the location of the FAH folder, you can do so by changing the pointer in the registry. You can find it at:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\FAH5\]

Double click on the "Imagepath" key and have it point to where you want to relocate the folder. You can also rename the service if you want.

When running as a service:
1. What is the advantage?
2. How do you monitor it to be sure it's healthy?

I am sure most of the advantage is in the install process, let me see..

1. the advantage is that you dont have to worry about forgetting to manually start the console, and also if a remote folding rig is rebooted, you dont have to worry about manually starting the console there again.

2. you monitor it with EMIII, or anything else, just like normal.

I think the main advantage is that it doesn't show up on the taskbar. I don't like having extra windows open if I can avoid it. Also, it will run even if other people use your computer under different usernames since it will run as a "local machine" service.

If I am correct it will run even when the system is not logged in. So between users you still are folding.

BTW, the installer, like all the others before it, will default to the creator's username, in this case Russianmissile1. Unless you guys want to fold for RM1, don't forget to change the .cfg file.
