Unhappy Another Rig Down!!

first a few stability problems this morning, then .... tonight, first a hiss, then a pop with a flash of light, then alot of smoke, then PSU shuts off and dies.

Nevermind's powersupply has kicked the bucket, but thats what you get with a generic PSU.

the pics explain the rest:

just an update on this situation:

i finally got a decent PSU, but now the motherboard wont even turn on. the psu turns on when you short those two wires.

looks like the mobo is dead. im going to rma it. the rig will be down for at least another week.

I'm right there with you, Russian. Two dead power supplies and two dead mobos in a month. BUT, I have a battery backup surge protector, an Asus P4 mobo for NeVeR's chip from newegg for $30, and a $30 Chieftech Matrix case on the way and I'm going to RMA my EPoX board and then I have to hunt down a new power supply myself...a SPARKLE (Jazzy approved PSU) and then I'll be adding another folder. MWUAHAHAHA!

Tagan

No one ever fried their rig. by running off a Tagan PSU. Yeah they are costly - but not compared to some Antec/Enermax etc. high power models. I has to be worth paying $40 extra for total peace of mind, zero hassle, (as near as) total reliability.

all i need now is some "custom mounting hardware" and i can mount my old bh-7 mobo into my farm rack and get it folding.

i prefer not to spend $60-70 for a psu that will be powering only a cpu and ram.
i got a Sparkle PSU. ill see if it can take the heat.

I currently have 4 rigs down (that is all of them).
My one, duno what happened there, put some more memory in it, and it became horrendusly unstable. suspect i cracked the motherboard when putting new memory. but i have turned the clocking of the memory down, and it has come back to life, so i will be re-installing OS (as it got rather screwed) today, and setting it all back up.
mother's rig died, bad motherboard as well, but have recently got new parts (and a faster processor ). PC is now built, but need to set it up properly.
fathers PC, may as well be considered as down, as it cannot connect to internet without my pc working
my 2nd pc can be considered as down for the above reason, should be back on the go this evening though and back up to full speed. will keep you posted

go buy a router, it will solve this problem. and your pc dosent have to be on for your father to go online.

routers are an expense not really required. My pc is on all the time, apart from the small down-time recently suffered. Its now all back up and running, apart from one box, which im just now restarting to see if the latest fiddling works....

its just come back up as i was writing this, and appears to be sending a WU! championies
