I believe the console would be better, as, if I remember correctly, screensaver needs constant net connection. Plus, the console folds faster.
I don't think there is much of a variance between the console's and screensavers' connection methods, but I could be wrong.

No their isn't but the only way the screensaver will fold is if the screensaver runs. Just to give you an idea were talking on a celeron you need at least 3 - 8 mins per frame. console is much better and their is also programs that will monitor their progress hide the F@H client and much more.

I want to add that when I was running 2k while folding I had a problem with the auto connect. I couldnt figure out how to get the sucker to dial out when it finished a work unit.

If you get yours set up and it works please share your knowledge with me. I would love to go back to 2k on all of my boxes. I've been using 98se just so I can fold.

But 98 folds faster less Core Kernel usage done by the OS which leaves more to F@H

Yeah, it folds around 15% faster in Win98.

I would like to chime in with a vote for the console version as well. Too many people have had problems with the screensaver and it's nowhere near as fast I don't know about ICS since I don't use it but ZoneAlarm shouldn't give you any problems. It's the second thing that I install on a new box, right after the OS and it's never been a problem but I gave permanent permission to the folding client and everything else has to ask first.

WOW, that explains it. My wife's win98 machine has been romping mine! Same board and processor(850) too, 'cept I have win2k and 3times as much RAM. Her's takes on average 9hours, mine more like 10-11.

With a smaller kernal, would true DOS be best?? Since I am running dual boot already, I wouldn't mind adding another OS for the cause. What's the best OS for folding?

Hej surly - boy would I be glad to have you on this team!

Use the console. Its faster, more reliable, and some evil sources claim that you don't get credit for using the screensaver.

I think that covers it! WELCOME!

I think Win98 would be the one to install, I'm not 100% sure that it's the fastest, because I haven't tried XP yet. But 2000 vs. 98, 98 is the clear winner.

Ok, I am humbled. I knew 98 was faster but I didn't know it was that much of a difference. 98 it is.

Well, the difference was so big on my setup, when I ran dual boot. I tested it and calculated that there was a difference on about 15%, between 98 and 2000.
