Client.cfg

I'm using the service installer for folding@home and it seems to keep screwing with my config.cfg file. I installed and changed the config to me, but after a while it still hadn't given me any points (i mean like a month), so i checked it out and the config had deleted most of itself. In the myfolding...info.html thingy it shows the user as unknown.

I replaced the dodgy config.cfg with a new one set to me again and made it read only. This stops it messing up, though i haven't completed any units yet. However, the myfolding...thingy.html now shows russianmissile1 when i didn't reinstall it and the config destinctly says me. Any way to sort this out. He doesn't deserve any more pcs with his damn service installer...

I want to make sure its actually going to give the points to me because i've done tons of heafty units and not got 1 thing...

Have you restarted the client after making changes to the config file? I have never tried to make it read only, but from checking my own config file, it was last edited today - so I suspect that making it read only isn't such a good idea?

May I suggest the no-nonsense text only client instead?

I was using the service version so i didn't have to do anything... Looks like that failed... I don't really want to be able to see anything even just the command box thingy...

I re moved the read onlyness on one process and immediately it defaulted to machine_ID 1 and stopped...It worked once it restarted but i've lost units to this happening before as sometimes it starts a new unit.

Launched as a service.
Entered C:\Program Files\Folding@Home to do work.

[07:08:02] - Ask before connecting: No
[07:08:02] - User ID: 41A9ACA14B0FC116
[07:08:02] - Machine ID: 1
[07:08:02]

A potential conflict was detected:

Process 672 is currently running and may also be a client with Mach. ID 1.
Program will now exit. Upon restart, this check will not be done --
you may wish to check that no client is currently running in
C:\Program Files\Copy of Folding@Home before restarting.

I might try the text version once this monstor unit has finished, but i'm sure it shouldn't keep screwing with the config file...

I replaced the config file with a non read only default one set to me and restarted the client but ti still shows as folding for russianmissile1...

UPDATE: Woooooooo..ooooooooooooooooooo...ooooooooooooooooo oooooo...oo... I think i've sorted it out, it says the right stuff now. I just did the config thingy again by using the -config parameter with the processes off then restarted the services. I might finally get some more points

I've had some issues with RussianMissile1's installer myself, I just use the normal files from stanford's website now

Glad you got it sorted

Well since one of my PCs has finally finished a unit, i can confirm that i've worked out how to get RussianMissile1's service installer working properly and on more than one core.

1) Stop the process from the services.msc thingy
2) Run the console using the shortcut and the -config parameter
3) Sort out your settings and close the F@H console
4) Restart the service using services.msc or restart your PC
Don't just change the config.cfg, it screws everything up!

Btw, that p2124_lambda_5way_melt_4_10011 unit took me ages and i only got 400 points ... I don't know how you guys do it... Probably because i can't run 24/7 but some of your pointages are ridiculous.

Great job...

Several machines 24/7 will do it.
