Its actually a little more complicated than that. I wrote an sh script in my init.d directory.

This is an example of what one guy did: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-12071.html I'll give you a hot tip here: Learn some sh/bash scripting, from a tutorial somewhere. Linux is one of those things where you need to understand it from the bottom up for everything to click.

Everything is based around the Linux filesystem. Read about it until you understand how it works, and what does what.

Once you have the filesystem understood, try to get some sh script under your belt. It may seam odd and hard to remember at first, but I can tell you from experience, that there comes a certain point, where your understanding of the filesystem structure and sh just clicks in your head, and suddenly everything makes perfect sense.

As far as programming languages go, sh is about on par with QuickBASIC in terms of difficulty. Its very simple and very easy to learn, and it will do you alot of good.

Here's a nice little brief and simple explanation of the Linux filesystem structure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dev_filesystem
