winSMP is worth it!

To everyone who tried winSMP and didn't like the problems, a little patience is worth the hassle. See the lower right corner for my daily production. It varies from 2500 to over 3000 a day with the 5 machines listed.

If you check my stats, I dipped yesterday due to a couple of bad WUs... Not too bad since I haven't seen problems in about a month with the 3 SMP rigs.

Thats quite low for ppd for running the smp core i've generally found my core2 would do around 1200-1500ppd when it was working properly, alas its hicked up a few times recently and my weekly average has gone down from 14k to 10k

None are core2duo's. I have a pentium D, not the best performer, but with a 2610 WU, the 4megs of cache really helps. I'm getting over 1k points a day. The notebook is a 1.6ghz core duo with 2megs of cache. The last SMP is an Opteron 165@ 2.2. It does not perform like a core2duo. I expect to upgrade at least 1 system to core2duo in the next few weeks and that should give me a major boost.... All in all, it's in line with expectations.

EDIT: For most of the winSMP WUs I've seen, 2 megs per core of cache is a huge boost. I've read there isn't much of a boost from 512k to 1meg. Overall, the 2meg per core core2duos just kick a$$. I'm looking for cheap upgrades so I'll probably just settle for the lowly 4300 with 1meg per core.

prices are falling all the time and the qx6600 is looking tempting, its now less than what i paid for my e6700 but has 4 cores and 8 megs of cache. not to mention they've just lowered its tdp from 105w to 95w look out for g-0 steppings they should overclock better

I know, I know.... it's killing me. Unfortunately, I need to watch the cash, not cache. I'll be buying 2 oem 4300's dirt cheap and getting the most for my money. Kentsfield is sweet, but not worth the expense for me. Gotta keep 5 machines up to date.

Working ok today, unless f@h have added the smp data to the normal score page.

i do believe i have fixed the issues with my smp core, seems the windows vista firewall was being rather picky (it has had issues starting with windows) when its off everything goes to default deny which isnt usefull, it was also hurting my ps3 score.
All is now fixed so expect my daily average to jump back upto 2000+/day

Sweet!
I ordered 2 E4300's, and a s939 x2. In a week or 2 my scores should see a nice little bump.

BTW, the core should be expiring by the end of the month. Hopefully, a new core will arrive that will resolve some of the headaches.
