new folding rig

yes, another folding rig up and running as one dies. seems like I can't get ahead!
my wifes' 939 dualie died lat night as I was in the final stages of setting up F@H on the new one.
looks like she gets the 2.4 AM2 that I planned on replacing with a 5000+ Black Edition. I don't think I'll miss it. just bad timing is all.

newness:
AMD AM2 5000+ Black Edition
Gigabite GA-MA69G-S3H HDMI ATX
2X1Gig G-Skill 5-5-5-5-15
Seagate 80Gig SATAII
MSI NX6600-TD256E PCI-E 256MB
Thermaltake TR2-430W PSU
Koolance 602 Watercooled (cpu only)

thanks. that 5000+ is a pushover to oc. with multiplier increased to 16x200 and no other changes so far,
it is very fast. did I mention it's cool too. 26c and 15c cooler than one of the 939's @ 2.6 and it gets
80 to 100 ppd more.

must add that it oc's to 3.3 and does everything but Fold at that speed. so it runs at 3.1, 25c and Folding a
pair of Double Gromacs.

times are 25:30 per step and that is at 2.8. I found it tossing out wu's at 3.1 also. have to mess about
with the oc when I have some spare time never enough time ti play

now at 3.0 and time is 25.08. so a small gain of 22 seconds per step.

Sweet. I only need a couple more pieces to finish an AM2 rig to replace an aging athlon xp rig. Went with a low power be2300 so it won't be a giant producer but it will sure better than my T-bred.

I may have to ask you for some advice about Linux. I am lazy but willing.

Linux is such a piece of cake I am absolutely amazed that I have gone so long without it. Example: my 3 rigs running Linux haven't gone down since I've been away, and that's about a month already. And I haven't found anything that I can do in 'Doze that I can't so in Linux. Except for gaming, but I have a dual-boot machine to handle that.

I think ccperf would agree. There's a learning curve and some mental adjustments, but after that it's smooth sailing.

agree with that. had Ubuntu FF running on a single core rig. when I went to putting
the duelies together, I got a lot impatient with the process of getting 2 clients running.
then the SMP thing and I did'nt/don't have the time to work things out.
then there is the receiving server issue. I know they must be getting hammered. it's
frustrating to fold for 3 days/343 points and have to idle for 11 hours because the
connection can't be made. this is the one thing that could cause me to quit FAH.
I planned on Stanford to stop before me!

There have been a few times I thought about not folding, mainly due to the unreliability of the clients and the servers. Sometimes I just wonder, if the software is that unreliable how can the results be any better? I just keep at it figuring it can't be doing any harm. The linux clients run fine for me.

I'll agree there is a learning curve with linux, but after a couple of weeks you start to get the hang of it and things get quite easy.

I hope to be testing an Alpha version of a linux distro project I have been working on this weekend. Should be to beta by June with a livecd release just to get some feedback on it's look and feel. It's slow going with my schedule these days..

with the way things are changing, as it relates to Folding, with discless comes another challenge.
I know you can 'teach an old dog new tricks'. it just takes longer.
