Heat Wave Knockout

I have to shut down my farm for one day, at least, until a heat wave moves on. Right now, it's keeping the A/C running, even at 5:00 AM.

I'll be back as soon as the heat wave breaks.

You deal with the heat from the Mojave Desert, on a daily basis? <grin>

Seriously, it begs the question what in blazes is a NYC guy doing in Northern Thailand?

"I was walking down to get a sandwich and the next thing I knew I was ..."

I know not everyone was happy with the latest renovation to Central Park, but isn't moving to Thailand just a wee bit extreme?

<j/k>

You gotta have fun with a tag line like yours, ThunderRd.

I'm back up, but today will be another hot one before we get a return to normal temps, with some sea breezes part of the day.

I just run the air like a mad man. It has actually been very cool here so far. Not normal for this time of year.

Well, it ain't the desert, but we've got 35-42 pretty much year-round. maybe a couple of cooler months around Dec-Jan, but no much.

I worked in Asia for many years in my former life; my company was based in NY and Chicago, but when I got out of the biz it seemed like the natural place to live. Now I've got a wife and a 2-year old to keep me busy, and a couple of internet shops- that's why I have so much iron at my disposal.

You guys jinxed me. I was reading this thread and noticed it was a little warmer than usual in my house. Checked it out and found the condensor fan in my AC unit had stopped turning. 5:30 on a Sunday, two days after I put the For Sale sign in the yard it decides to quit.. All fixed now and should be comfortable again when I get home from work.

It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it! <grin>

Just don't tell me you've also found a "natural" place to live, halfway around the world?

ThunderRd: do you speak "Thai"/Cantonese, ???, or is English fairly common?

Well it's as natural as it can be for one of us, I guess...I went on the road at 20 and didn't get out of the job until I was 41 or so. I spent most of my adult life in various places in Asia. The last 5 or 6 years I was working I stayed in Thailand full-time, and I'm 50 now. I'm not Asian, but I have learned that I can *think* like one when I have to. It's not my default method of thinking, but it helps to be able to play the game as needed.

Yes, I speak Thai *fairly* well. Not completely native, but approaching it. My biggest weakness in the language would be technical vocabulary and usage, but it's not a huge problem. English is used by some [usually not well outside of Bangkok. I'm quite far away from there].

Cantonese=a Chinese dialect. Lots of Thai-Chinese people, but mostly Mandarin dialect here. Chinese is not related to Thai in any way - different character set, tones, etc, etc.

Thanks for the info, ThunderRd. Interesting to hear from someone who's actually living in a country, rather than just visiting it.

My folding output may be back up a little bit. My Playstation 3 is running F@H all day at the moment, I wish I could say its for the good of all etc.

But the fact is its so cold in Queensland at the moment that the only thing I could find to keep my feet warm under my desk was the PS3. So its sitting backwards under the table, blowing steaming hot air out onto my nice toasty warm toes, with no TV/monitor connected.

$1000 buys you a nice foot heater.

So yea... F@H has cured my cold feet, even if it hasn't quite gotten around to cancer.

The multi function hardware.

I wonder if we will see that on a PS3 commercial.....

That's the big reason my newest box uses the low power Xeon 5420 (just 50 watts each), and the mobo allows the lower power/less heat NON FB-DIMM memory.

Although it wasn't intended for folding, only, it's good to go when available, even in 90 degree + (Fahrenheit) temps. When it gets over 97F, then it's just too uncomfortable to fold anything, since I get a lot of afternoon sun.

While it's folding, you can put your hand right on the standard heatsink and feel no heat, at all. That was a complete surprise to me.

The cooling sea breeze has returned, so at last all rigs are back up and folding at full speed.

Yee Haw!

Yee Haw!
the rains have returned to the Great Northwest. even my water cooled rigs were 10-12c 'warmer' than the 'normal' 26-42c. the 939 dual core runs the hottest @ 42c while 'Folding', ambient is 65f so it doesn't take much to get it hot. the rest of my rigs are 4 65W AM2's, one sktA, one Skt754.
