Am I Missing Something?

Hi,

I guess that I'm missing something here. I've just signed up
to fold with AOAForums the other day. I had been thinking
about it for a while, after hearing much talk about how it's
so fun and addicting. Sounded like it was right up my alley

Well, when does the fun part start??? This is probably the
slowest, least exciting program that I've ever run on my
computer. Besides the obvious help to humanity, what is
so appealing? Maybe it's the aggravation that I experienced
yesterday after folding for hours and then it said something
about a bad work unit. Or maybe it was when it wouldn't
upload my next WU results until I searched that other
community site and downloaded a new debug client. Or
maybe it's the fact that I've been working on this WU for over
10 hours now. Darn...Just got done and AGAIN it wouldn't
transmit the WU.

I just don't get it. At least I got a cool looking "official member"
logo at the bottom of my posts now

most of us just get a kick out of knowing we are doing something worth while, also there is an air of competetiveness in a way, since there are rankings etc.

E.G. i recently created the "AOA-UK" sub team, there are about 3 of us all pooling our recources to try to get into top 10 within AOA...... anyway, its not boring if you use your computer for other stuff too!

lol

Keep folding and coming back

I felt the same way a year ago, started folding in september and haven't looked back since.

For me it's about competing with my overclocked machine. No, it's not as exciting as looking at 3dMark looping for the 342nd time, but it also doesn't require much more than my fast machines...

yes, helping humanity blah blah blah, but I do it to beat jeff

... and a dang fine team logo it is too!

Sorry to hear about your upload problems. Are you on dial up or broadband? I've only had a couple of times when it wouldn't upload, but others with dial-ups have had much more frequent hiccups along the way.

Give us some more details. Maybe we can help you figure it out.

Glad to hear you joined up dude - but also sorry to hear about your problems! However, we are here to help, so just ask away... try to be more specific on your problems, and we will help all we can.

Welcome to team AOA - may your future folding adventures be better than the first ones!

I'm on dial-up. That may be what has been causing my problems
but I think that I've got it now. I forgot and was folding with
the FAH2.exe program again. As soon as I connected again
with DebugFAH3.exe it transmitted my results in the queue
okay and I seem to have a smaller, quicker WU now.

I'm starting to creep up from the bottom of the stats now, so
maybe I'll get into it more the higher I climb.

Welcome to the fold Beard. Don't worry about the long proteins. The longer it takes, the more they are worth...

Stay with it for a while and you'll see. I started in February and I'm up to 22nd in the team standings already. The fun part is the competition and it's for a great cause.

This is a great place for OC help too. Everybody is super friendly and very helpful.

If you can leave your stuff on 24/7 and you'll climb the charts fast.

Good luck.... and thanks for helping out.

Yup...I figured it out. We do this so that we can tell the ol' lady
that we NEED to build another system so that we can help cure
diseases.

Actually, I'm definitely having fun folding here now. I have another
new EPoX 8KHA+ that I've been wondering what to do with since
I got it back RMA. I reckon that I'm going to build another folding
rig with it. I have most all that I need to get it together. I'm
looking around now for a good case/PSU deal. I think all that
I'll need then is a floppy and CD-ROM.

By the way, thanks for the warm welcome here guys. I've been
lurking and learning here since I put my EPoX rig together last
October and figured that it was time to join in some.

Aaarrrggghhh...My WU just got finished and didn't go through.
Why do I like this??? Oh yeah...More hardware. :-D

I did manage to move past the slackers in the bottom of the ranks
pretty quick, but I can see that it's going to be small steps the
rest of the way up the ladder. I might need to put a few rigs
together here to catch up with some of you.

I like the av Beard.
I have always liked long and low as opposed to sit on your nads crotch rocker. I have been a Norton rider for years.

You hit it on the head with your analogy. I got away with telling the little woman we needed a file server, and then a connection server, then a KVM switch. The KVM now has 2 open ports that need to have something plugged in to them so I'm going to HAVE to build another 2 systems soon to balance it out.

Welcome to the fold !!!

Do you like Antec1040 cases? Newegg has the Antec1040 case with a 420W PowerLink PSU for $69. (BTW 400w Antec and Powerlink are both rebadged CWT 420s. Just a slight deviation in the -12 & -5v lines.)

Wow...Thanks Steve. That's a REAL good deal that I just
couldn't pass up, so I ordered one. :-D It's like getting a free PSU
at that price. Hopefully the 8KHA+ will like it. They are kinda picky.
Do you know if the PSU has those adjustable pots?
