One of the top copyright lawyers in the US takes Big Content to the woodshed in his new book, saying that "the Copyright Wars are a fight against our own children and it is a fight that says everything about the adults and very little about the children."

Interestingly, Engstrom from the Swedish Pirate party seams to have managed to do something useful in protecting the rights of those accused of infringement.

The system of "Giant corporation X" being given a name or IP address by a copyright infringement detection type company (And you just know those guys are getting paid to turn up results, irrespective of the truth), handing an infringement request to the user's ISP, and having the ISP so utterly terrified of being bent over and reamed in court that they cut the person off with no notice, recourse, hearing or evidence is a human rights abuse.

Engstrom was part of the push to give people accused of copyright infringement some due process rights, which will no doubt frustrate the lawyers of the content industry that don't understand that having an IP address is not evidence of anything.

While I hold the patent on inducing electrons to move or oscillate through one or several conductive or semiconductive materials in a controlled or uncontrolled manner that may or may not be converted to other forms of energy or be used to transmit or formulate meaningful information.

(And before anyone shouts, "prior art", the various Patent Authorities are consistently granting new patents based on shoddy rephrasing rather than actual research, so that it's possible to gain a patent for software techniques in use since the Difference Engine, or to obtain a patent on the gene itself even though it's a natural phenomenon and not an invention). So there.

Doesn't matter. You'd have to pay me anyway, 'cos cooking over fire causes high levels of free acrylamides to form in the food, and acrylamides cause cancer, while cooking on gas will suffocate your children (won't somebody think of the children). So you'll have to cook in an electric oven unless you want to go to prison for reckless endangerment of your guests.

Because my patent is so broadly worded, it can cover anything from a cooker to a microprocessor, thus I would be owed a licence fee for the cooker, as well as the email you sent inviting your guests, and any time they rang the doorbell.

And all that will be enforced at your cost by your own law enforcement agencies.

(So stop me taking over the world with a badly-worded patent: fight any and all extensions to copyright and patent law.)
