Mod Squad upcoming projects

This is a thread to discuss the following;

- Upcoming Mod Squad group projects; Ideas about projects, and discussion of current projects
- Solo Mod Squad projects; Where the solo projecteers post with information regarding their current project, or help with a current one.
- Editing; Edits of finished projects, to be presented for publication (assuming it gets published).
- Requests; If you want us to write a certain tutorial or mod, let us know here.

I want to see lots of activity in this thread, particularly from the mod squad members.

Also, non-MS members; don't be shy about requesting, and feel free to give your input about projects too.

~ Raphael.

Edit: Could an admin sticky this plx? k thx bai.

Well. I'm thinking about doing some case painting, and maybe some other cheap mods.

I'm also very happy to help edit things if people would like me to do that.

Project: Breakout

So my next mod will be a breakout box which doubles as a monitor pedestal since my monitor should be an extra 3-5" higher off my desk to be eye level. So here's the items I've got laying around.

6-in-1 card reader (my monitor also has 9-in-1 built in but w/e more is better)
4 port powered usb hub
4 port "AMD" non powered usb hub
8 port gigabit switch
matrix orbital LCD2041 4x20 lcd display
microphone
microphone jack
headphone jack
speaker cables
stereo amplifier board - gutted from cheapo powered speakers
toggle switches
momentary switches
key switches
fiberglass & resin
plexiglass
wood
external ata133 to usb2.0 pcb
16x dl dvdrw/cdrw combo

So with all that stuff (and much more) just laying around I figured it's about time I make another mod. So my plan is to open all the products, gut them, and arrange them in a nice easy access fashion. So I started as I usually do, with the end result visualization.

I'll be working on the case portion of it today, measuring out my cuts, once, then cutting 10 times (always more fun that way). If you've got any suggestions, post em up! I think I'm going to build a few of these. Perhaps a nice NAS box

I've obtained an xcaliber 0-0000 pinstriping brush kit. then I've just gotta go pickup any suitable paint/urethane. Of course that is if I even decide to do it. Might just paint it a silver color to match the base of my monitor.

Wow, nice Xmetrix.

Since you're not part of the Mod Squad, I'd be happy to offer you a place in it as soon as one becomes available, because this mod looks super cool. Would you be interested?

raphael2040... I'm sure that if you look at this as An opportunity that AOA makes available to all interested members, we can find a place for new modders as they come along.

Really there is no need to exclude anyone who wishes to participate.

'tis what I said, right Mr Daniel? ^_^;

I'm not trying to exclude anyone, but I know what you mean. It's just that I wanted to create a thread where ideas could be gathered about projects.

If I gave the wrong impression in my first post, then I apologise. =)

I'd advise injection moulding that in PVC. It'd be quick, cheap and far easier than cutting it all out bit by bit...

That takes all the fun out of modding.

>_<

-pokes the inactiveness in this thread-

. . .So, apart from Ronny and Xmetrix, no-one else is planning on modding anything any time soon?

Well, I am. I'll give the final details when I'm finished planning. =)

Not to worry Raphael! Your doing fine. I just wanted to be sure that anyone who wishes to join the mod team can and feels welcome in doing so.

So, are you teaching creators?

Or creating teachers?

Just for the record, people, my next mod involves me creating a StepMania (DDR simulator) cabinet. Watch this thread for updates.

What happens with your Xbox mod?

I can't wait to see the conclusion, or did I miss it?

i may not have been posting much recently about the Mod Squad, but i've been busy. My first batch of parts should be coming in soon. in the next few days. I'm working on my NES pc mod. I know i was talking lots about it before but the money for the first batch of parts is paid and the second batch of parts is coming once i get paid on friday!

Mobo, CD rom, adapter, i'll be ordering a specific psu online on friday, but buying the ram, hdd, usb wireless network adapter, and perhaps a usb hub or two from a local store. I'll also be buying a couple Nes controller conversion kits, unless someone knows where i can buy the individual parts from for cheaper. http://www.joystiq.com/2004/09/07/ho...a-pc-joystick/

I'll be doing the actual adapter wireing on the inside not on the actual controllers. at least that's the plan. then i can use the controllers on my actuall nes as well. i just need to find an emulator that's compatable with the duck hunt gun as well.
