The pencil is a great multi-purpose tool that should be in every hardware hackers bag.

You can use the rubber end to clean contacts on cards and memory that has seen a few too many slots and gotten marked / dirtied up. I just used mine yesterday when I was installing several more USB ports into my box. The pci card was old and had seen several installations. It had black marks on the gold tabs and the system couldn't see it. A little erasing and just like new.

They are also good to scratch you back in places you can't reach.

Oh, and you can write with them also.

Good old pencil, far nicer to write with than a standard ink ball pen.

Curling does tidy things up a bit. I used to do that to my cpu fans. It's gonna take me forever, but I'm thinking of braiding my new NZXT psu.

Some examples:

braiding can look really good, f it's done right. The problem I found with it was that afterwards the cable is just about the same length as it was to start with, so you must fold it if it is too long. But if the cables are about the right length then braiding can be a really good idea

True, they only get maybe 10% shorter, but they are easier to route. Once you bend them, they hold the shape.

I hate all the extra connectors that I don't need on a PSU. I prune my power supplies. You can always use extensions or splitters later. I'm clipping this NZXT psu down to 2 sata, 1 floppy, 2 legacy, 2 fan, 2 SLI. ATM, the entire top 5¼ bay is stuffed full of unused crap.

I know exactly what you mean

I just tend to hide them though, since, knowing my luck, I will find out I cut the wrong cable, or that I need it later.

I think modular PSUs go a really long way in helping to solve this, especially since you can make your own, custom-length modular cables for them

Stick some pics up when you're done?

I have been using the curling method on my fan leads as well. It turns out great.

I had to give up on the small tricks that make things look real nice, every time I would finish, something would happen and I would have to undo some of it or I would see something on newegg that I just couldn't live without. Now I just route everything in such a way that it is not a hassle to pull the motherboard out of the case.

I thought I was the only one! My boxes seem to never be much more than "connected"

I think I'll braid my molex cables as well as they're now visible, any tips?

you can use a very small screwdriver to push the little locking tabs on the pins in so you can pull the pins. Or a pin pusher if you can get one.

Braiding more than 3 wires Is easy if you know how. Unfortunately it doesn't translate to text well. Google it. Trust me, i just started over no less than 4 times trying to explain,
