Cat Carrier ll has begun!

S0me of you may remember my first cat carrier mod. That one was on a whim. This one is going to be a keeper! The carrier it self is a little larger at !4"ht x 12" w x 20" L. The front door is Approx 9" x 12 '.

The lid is removed and specialty drywall hangers were installed allowing quite a degree in hight adjustment.

Then the motherboard [Evga780i SLI--insubstitution for the EVGA 790i ULtra that will be the final intall ]
It is mounted upside down so that the PSU, DVD, HD, and floppy are at tbottom edn .

Friday, I'll start the full tear down on the tower and up will rise the pride of the Feline Fleet! Cat Carrier ll

i thought that was grounded thru the PSU?
How else would i ground all that plastic?

I hope my camera will do justice toward the stupidity of man-mainly me but there is some to go around.
My temps were in the crapper` but since i had the mod i wanted to do coming up` it was convient to just stop any OC and wait for funds-not much-and timeing to come together and then It would't be much.
I started the mod yestesterday. a comedy of install errors. Here are the oics and then I'll explain.

Nope. Mobos are grounded through the ground plane layer, which is exposed where the mounting screw holes are.

You need to use metal standoffs and screws and screw the board to a metal mobo tray, then screw that to the plastic case.

I hate to do this Sam but one of the ones you saw before was the SPP cooler. (hint: the copper one is the MVP cooler!)

Thanks for that! I had not a clue. My first design flaw but easy to fix. Keep an eye on me!!!!

I didn't have time to tell you why my temps were so bad-espcially the SPP-but most of you will find it if you take a look.

I just went through the thread and My lack of communication relay shows!
Why don't you guy's know what I'm thinking?
the first set is the aftermarket cooling set that came with the board. The rectangular piece is the OEM chip set cooler. it comes with a fan for the SPP- the MCP is passive.

The aftermarket system is the HR-05 Sli/Ipx. As everyone know knows, part of the problem eith buying used is you usually don't' get all the parts, cables, and manuals. To make it worse-I do have all of that to the EVGA 780i. Small error but it's not the same.
Also, the HR-05 is built for the EVGA 680i and the SPP HSF is meant to sit on the chip Kitty-corner.

There is no way that I can get the SPP HSF to go in square in any direction which I assume is because of th size of my CPU HSF so I install the OEM cooler system.

The only thong I relay notice is how cheaply the OEM version is. It's copper with another layer of what I assume is zinc, also there has been no attempt to remove the machine marks. I made a small attempt at the SPP but was tired-W/O sleep-and just wanted to be up and folding-not relay noticing the 3 bumps on the corners except that they are in the way. but they are OEM and ain't given another thought.
Not even when I saw the small pads around both the SPP and the MCP. IDJET!

I've put in a tray and as you can see I haven't put the board in yet. It's going to take 2 days depending on what or how I Can get coolining to fit and lapped.

Here is today's work 'in total'. Tray is in with a modified I/O Panel.
I managed to get all after market chip set cooling in place using Arctic Silver Ceramique. It just won;t boot.

Yea, the EVGA 9800GT fits in there too!!---I've got dielectric grease-remember?

Except for some clean up (and a trip to the jewlrey store for the 790i!)
PetCarrier ll is on it's last legs-it's turning out better than I thought. I din't know if I can open it up and lay it open yet but I think it will. This time I parked the PSU in the bottom left. Here are the picks I took about 15 min ago. it has the 780i init untill I can get the socket checked. thats ok-Now I need to look a t temps and install Win 7 agian!
