Thanks Rondog!

Nice. My HP switch is rather loud. I will give this a go...

Thanks Rondog.

Rondog 22nd February, 2007 10:57 PM

No worries Samuknow, let me know how it goes. Thanks Pitch. I appreciate it mate,

Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Contemplating giving it a paint job, but I have other things on my plate at this point in time.

Nifty article, Rondog!

captaincurran 23rd February, 2007 02:55 AM

it's a nice mod, i've long since hung up my old modded hub, and since looking at yours i'm tempted to mod my wireless router... some how...

robbie 23rd February, 2007 04:20 AM

Not bad at all.
One question, why not just slow down the 40's?

Because thats too simple! :P

Nah, the bearings in the fans we pretty damaged by the noise it was making.

weldzilla 23rd February, 2007 05:45 AM

you know I think it is a good mod. Good thinking, but, once you scratched it up you needed to to go ahead and sand ,prime and paint.
Then it will be completed. As I say I like it. Now finish it out.

Sounds like a part 2 to me. :) I'll get on it on my next day off.

Ladies and gentlemen, lend me your ears, what colour should I paint it?

Samuknow 23rd February, 2007 01:22 PM

Always fond of blues...

Maybe a nice two tone....

Or perhaps one of the textured finishes...

May I introduce you to Cisco rackmount switches (or Sun Opteron servers). They are the whiniest, screechiest annoying bits of kit there are (probably). Being in a roomfull of such kit has been known to send people over the edge.

weldzilla 23rd February, 2007 02:25 PM

Thats the spirit!! Rondog you will just have to decide what color will go with everything else or what you can live with!!

Very nicely done. When we over look things, they are bound to be slow...":O}

I have 2 of thoes' monsters in my lab, noisy when the bearings are good, just wait until one goes out. Sounds like nails on a chalkboard x10. Easiest way to fix that is a slower/quieter one from tiger or newegg.

The only use I've put a 40mm to is added cooling for a GPU. Was a loong time ago, but the Vidcard appreciated it! It was a high quality fan, made little noise.

duno about colour, but I think a single colour matt and gloss (1 painted gloss, other half matt) with a nifty design
