Quiet DVDRW drive ?

Hi anyone know of a quiet DVDRW drive ?
I have an NEC 3540a with rip speed unlocked its great for playing original dvds but when I play any divx or mpg basically anything from DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW it is very noisy I also have a Pioneer 108 I can use would this be a lot quiter for the DVDR ?
If not can anyone recomend a suitable quiet drive as this is now the loudest part of my seteup I have managed to get my cpu fan down to 2000rpm and case fans are below that

Or you could buy the LG 4160 which is what I have - quiet as a mouse. As is the rest of my system (when i'm not gaming - for which I obviously overclock everything!)

By definition, why would you turn off riplock if you are looking to quiet down your drive?

LG 4163b here...occasoinally when spinning up a cd it makes a wee bit of noise, but that's dependant on which cd, not the drive.

You are capping your drive to a certain speed i.e 1x, 5x etc obvioulsy lower speed means slower spinning hence a quieter drive.
Without using the nero tool the NEC drive is so loud its annoying now I can't hear it at all.

I'm not trying to be obnoxious, but that's my point. Riplock limits the rip speed so that it reads slower, spins slower, and is quieter... By removing riplock, you made the drive more noisy. The easiest way to quiet the drive would be to enable riplock again.

It's like the balance for noise and performance when overclocking...

The only problem with limitting the read speed to 1x is playing movies tends to make them skip towards the end of the film

Nec drives are fairly quiet though, the tray door has a little bit of foam or something on it which makes a surprising differance

I was amazed at what a difference a case makes to the noise your rig makes in general, even when I just shifted the same quiet components over from an old case to the one I have now. Having a solidly built case minimises a lot of resonant noise. I guess another reason my DVD drive is so quiet is that I have a thick metal door on my case that closes over the drive bays, so no leakage through the front either.

A door on the front of the case makes a real differance even if it's only plastic
