| Quitting without a fight - now that's a laugh. I've had nothing but trouble since version 2 came out. I've had every problem mentioned in this forum. Work units that get backed up, no credit for units returned, clients that reset every time the computer is rebooted, personal info and team number reset by client, client won't stop running after it's terminated, and the list goes on. I started out trying to run it on 5 boxes. That became a major pain almost immediately so I cut it down to one. There was something wrong with it almost daily. Bottom line is I think they've got quite a few bugs to work out, and I don't have the time to be a beta tester for something this problematic. I'm not talking about the integrity of the program or leaving the team. I'm just saying I'll wait until they produce some code that works without all the hassles. This is not Seti versus Folding, or a team desertion - I'm just tired of fooling with the bugs. When they come up with a better client and more reliable servers I'll give it another run.

| Just curious, what operating system are you using Cole? & Which version of F&H would you say you have attempted the most? Also, are you on dialup or broadband of some sort. Seems you've had more than you fair share of bad luck. I am currently working 19 machines, everything from Celerons, Celeron2, P2, P3, P4, Duron, Athlon, and AthlonXP. All are on Win98SE or WinXP. Almost all are on the graphical version 2.15 and have lan connection to either cablemodem or DSL. I can say with relative certainty that for these configurations, folding is pretty stable. Oh, and I'm o/c'ing almost every machine (15%-55%). I think dial-up seems to have major issues, so I am grateful not to have to deal with it. I've been fortunate that, I've had to do almost no maintenence work, and it was purely luck. Please don't feel discouraged. I kinda hope you are the compulsive type like me, and can't let it alone until it's working. I noticed your last WU scored was in November (TC ?). I'd be frustrated too. Maybe take a break and walk away for a bit... and come back to it refreshed. Take care.

![]() Now in the name of decency I'll withdraw from this thread so you all can get back to the seriosity of the subject at hand.

| I can't help thinking there is something more fundamentally flawed going on. Seems with the number of machines you have, even with bad luck, odds are at least a couple of machines would have been cranking away. I have 2 theories. 1. Really bad luck downloading the SW. Maybe something corrupt, and by virtue of using the same file on all machines, you replicated the culprit. 2. Something in your network causing the problems. I was using WIN2K & Win98SE with the latest updates until a month or so ago. I fail to believe I was just lucky. I know these are shots in the dark... Anyway, best of luck to you.

sorry about the quitting without a fight thing Cole ....I also didn't realize that you were folding under TC my mistake I've been happily folding on dial up for some time now and after reformatting my main box which the other two use for internet access my problems went away |

| I didn't know there is a 2.17 beta out - I might have to give that a shot. I don't own anything but Win2k, so another OS is not an option unless it's *nix. Also I only downloaded one copy of the client and then distributed that around my lan. Come to think of it that might be a problem. Since @Home went under my cable service has been horrible. The head end got cut back from 2 DS3 lines to 1 T1, so it's slow as heck. Downloads often pause for long periods. This could explain the upload problem as well, but it was doing that before @Home closed shop.

| Hey.. we're here for you. If you give the beta a shot on one of your machines, give us a blow by blow, K? Worst comes to worst, complaining about it might make you feel a little better. If you have a really bad latency on the ISP, there isn't much you can do but complain. Sounds like you got a great farm, and it would be a shame if it didn't fold. Good luck.
