FAH Installer

i want to make an install program for fah that will install the console client, a config file and a registry entry to make the console run as a service as well as have the "-advmethods" flag. the overclockers.com service install does not work with this new console verion(it does not start the folding core after a restart)
now, this will be using the new fah5.00 console client.

i have isolated the regirty entry which sets this new client as a service. i am trying to make one of those "registry additions" files that when you doubleclick them, they add their contents to the regitry.
now, the registry key that sets FAH as a service is of the type REG_EXPAND_SZ
i need to know what to enter into the "regchange" file so that this key will be modified to include the "-advmethods" flag.

any help would be greatly appreciated

i say make an executable that has the F@H gui and console, and puts them on, and then edits the system to boot the console..

anyway, I am a retard about programming, I know little compared to Aedan and them, but I have nifty ideas..lol

i downloaded the setup factory installer from indigorose.com. its only a trial version, but i managed to build a working install file. all i have to do now is totweak the way all the dialog boxes and screens look throughout the install.

i also need someone with a registered version of this installer to build an executable file for me once i get done with the actual "tweaking" part, because the trial version's licence agreement forbids you from distributing any exe files made with the trial version.

And under what conditions, then, is theft ok? That's what you are talking about here Alex. 'Borrowing without permission with intent to return' is the same thing.

I don't like Microsoft and I think Bill Gates has way more money than any one person needs. That still doesn't make it right for me to steal Windows.

I was under the impression you could make an insertable registry key by simply writing a text file (in Notepad) in the correct format, saving it, then renaming the extension .reg

Maybe things have changed since Win98

i know about that one, its only that the registry key that you have to modify is of a type: REG_EXPAND_SZ and i dont know what to write in the file to modify this type of key.

RM, if you can wait a couple of weeks while I clean up another project, I may be able to help you out by building an InstallShield project.

through the installer program itself, i got it to successfully modify a REG_EXPAND_SZ key., it would add the -advmethods flag to fah5. now i think there is another registry entry somewhere that tells the computer whether or not to run fah as a service, because the user config file dosent have an entry for "service"

i appreciate all the help

I have asked my old programming teacher to help with this project, maybe write it from scratch as it's own installer, he is brilliant, so we will see..
