Old Skool Folding

Got the old t-bird back up and running, even overclocked on a biostar board, actually running under 55c at 100% load, a feit for a t-bird..lol
not many of these left folding..haha
these babies were the first good folding cpus, i think, outfolds my p3 1GHz@1.2GHz by a good bit.
just thaught i'd tot my horn.

The Tbirds really were the "Big thing" once, the equivalent P3 didn't stand a chance. (I should know, I had one!!)

this is wierd, I am hitting a lot of 250 frame amber cores, and oddly enough, the t-bird at 1.1GHz is keeping up with the 2400XP, maybe 10% slower, but still pretty good.
btw, what is an amber core?
I have just started ghetting them, and what do they fold well on?
I also may have to underclock the 2400 and the t-bird, both running 55c, and my room is 90f at times..lol
it is worth it tho, I like helping out.

I have one of those folding.

Mine is a T-Bird 1.4GHz on an Iwill KK266. This was one the best OC platform out there.

Do you know how to unlock that cpu Alex? If it is an AXIA stepping it should be good for 1.4GHz on air, easily 1.33GHz

AXIA, AVIA or AYIA were all good overclocking cores, they were basically 1.33ghz parts and a lot of people got them up to 1.5ghz

Tbirds are very good at amber and tinker cores. They do not have SSE which gives a boost to gromacs, and double gromacs. On tinker and amber, I suspect it can fold almost as well as a p4 running at twice the speed.

With tinkers it is folding purely based on raw CPU power, no optimizations and it is still a workhorse. With gromacs, they can now use 3dnow+ which nowhere near as efficient as SSE, but workable.

I've got a 1G tbird as in my sig has been slaving away folding at 1.2G for a long time now. It been folding for over a year thats for sure. It is my slowest rig though. Only does any good with tinkers which it hasnt had for ages. Currently its doing 600pointer gromacs and taking ages to do them (~200 hours). The two laptops whoop its backside folding wise. Especially the p3-m which is clocked slightly slower but on gromacs its easily 50% faster

Disable high memory usage on that PC. Since the big 'uns are all gromacs, this will slightly reduce the chances of getting gromacs.

i believe the get uber units option is turned off (you have to turn it on in config usually rite) the current unit is munching around 75megs of ram which is quite alot but i've seen more as the p4's got 2x 100meg units running

By your description, it sounds like it is turned on. Run through with the config flag and see.
