Back on track

I have set both cores of the 5000+ to fold when the PC is on, so "Denmark" is back on track. I'll try to add a few more computers here and there in the future. It all helps.

All points help, so get going

Most SMP work units are 6 day deadlines now; have you thought of trying the SMP client? If the machine runs 8 hours a day you should make the deadlines with no problem. Points yield is much higher for you and the team. Each unit is 1700-2100 points.

Your box should run a WU in under 20 hours.

Also, what kind of GPU do you have in that thing? Might be able to do something with that, too. Let me know.

Whoa, how does that work with the SMP client, will both cores work on the same unit? I'll surely consider it. My PC runs in 6-7 hours a day on average, so I reckon 3 days would do it.

I'm only running a 7800GT, my gaming these days consists of Football Manager and the deluxe version of Secret of Monkey Island :-) I will be replacing it with a Radeon of some kind, probably within a month.

Hi Dan, nice to see you too!

I'm quite busy with work, I'm now working as Product Specialist for our Datacommunication products (I'm still working for the world's largest pump manufacturer). In our spare time we like to work on our house and in the garden, it is a good way to relax and "un-stress". How about you, how are you doing?

By the way - I just saw that your weekly folding output is 0, how about starting folding again to celebrate that I also got back on track??

Great news Allan! I'm happy your life is going well. Things are a bit stressed here. Patti's looking for work so we are squeezing every dime until fortune takes a better turn...or worse! ":O}

Yes, the SMP client tells both cores to chew up the same wu. 6 or 7 hours a day should do it; look in our "SMP" thread for how to get started and post or PM me if you need some help.

When you get your new GPU you will be able to fold on it as well for big points. For ATI you will need any card from the X2xxx (R6xx) series or above. For Nvidia it has to be from the 8000 series or newer. Right now, Nvidia is king of the hill for folding, but ATI will get their turn

The GPU wus run in hours, not days, so the machine doesn't have to be on a lot to run them.

I'm in the process of migrating a couple of my rigs from 32 bit linux to 64 bit, once that is complete I will begin folding again.

The Gentoo install on my server is 6 years old, with little more than security updates applied in the last 1.5 years and about 1.75TB of stuff on it, 1/2 of which I'm sure can be purged but I'm not looking forward to going through that mess..

Heya, I'm back from a well-deserved vacation near Alicante, Spain. We spent 8 days in a house at the Costa Blanca, the "White Coast".
Highly recommended!! :-)

I've added a couple of pictures from Alicante...

I almost forgot: I haven't looked into the SMP client yet, but I have just added a 3500+ to the cause.

Nice pics, I didn't get a chance to do any real traveling this year. The extent of my vacation will be a Summit ET finals race that they hold at different tracks in the southwest each year. This year it happens to be at my local track.. Not really a vacation if you go home each night..

Definitely look into the SMP projects. Pretty much figure triple the points or better running smp clients..
