You can check out the various display options in htop with F1, for example, you can toggle the threads view with shift-h.

You can tag processes, search, and a hundred things more. F2 will allow you to configure the graph colors and styles. You can also kill processes from htop using F9.

You see that you have 9 FAH processes showing. That is correct, there is one main process, and 8 threads even though you have only 4 cores (hyper-threading)

What is "Load average"...whatever it is it seems kinda low...":O}

SAY! will this thing tell me my distance to my cores thermal limit? I saw it on the U tube! Actually I think it was the Asus software for my Motherboards being demonstrated in the only way it can be...in Windoze! ":O} Gave the Temp of each core, and gave the distance one had to go if one truly wanted to fry it...Kinda like knowing the place if not the hour of death! Way Cool! LOL

Do you live in the city or the country? What are your surroundings like. I enjoy thinking of you gazing off at the Black Buffalo in the paddies... Drinking something iced and very
alternative culture...with a ridiculously beautiful flower decorating the Rim...But I think I'd rather know more about your circumstance than my fantasies, so feel free to disabuse me of my illusions if you must....but take one last long exotic drink first...":O}

Those are average utilization numbers for 1, 5 and 15 minutes, a standard Linux nomenclature. 100% utilization for a 4 core machine should be around 4, but your machine is hyperthreaded, so it's 8.

I live in neither the city nor the country, I guess you'd call it the suburbs, but the rice fields aren't far away - within several kilometers. As for fancy drinks - it's mostly beer here. The Thais love their beer, and they have several good brews, but I prefer the Lao beer. I think it's the best in the region.

BTW, we ice our beer here [as in, serve it on ice]. I know, it sounds weird, but you get used to it.

My company sentenced me to 5 months in Bangkok and 3 months in Hong Kong in 1979, so I was 21. I was just out of college. I didn't want to go, felt I wanted to be in the Big Show in New York, but apparently I did well enough in Asia that they offered me an opportunity to help start up what would become the Asian division of the company, headquartered in BKK.

Since then, I probably haven't spent more than 2 or 3 months a year Stateside. So it' s been a long time.

Still with the same company? Sounds like you headed out on your own at some point?

Worked for one company my entire career. Stepped down after realizing what I had sacrificed for it, although I loved my work. Had a good run.

Now I'm just a normal dad. 2 kids and time for myself, at least sometimes.

BTW, my youngest is named Daniel

Both boys or did you get lucky?":O}

How old are they? I have a sense of you, but not much of your life.

I live in the woods at the edge of vast forests. This is a bit new for me. Lived on a small farm commune in my youth, but that was nothing like this.

Deer and Elk wander up my drive way and the neighbors felt they needed to trap my first and only black bear. They may have saved my life, I found the bear to be quite friendly and attractive...Having been every kind of fool there is...I just might have ended up a dead one! LOL

I guess I think of myself as a student of the I Ching...for the last 48 years it has consumed my interest...Even with the Book of changes...some things don't change...":O}

I have a parrot and we adopted a stray cat this years one in a long succession of feline companions. Really miss having a dog, but no longer have the energy to care properly for one.

Since my mid-thirtys I've lived alone with Patti. Not so much a choice as a destiny I suppose. I've always enjoyed the company of others, had I been asked...this would have been the last life outcome I would have chosen, yet I always knew what was to come...strange that I should enjoy men and yet live alone. strange that it should be OK with me.

My book says I'm to weak to lead and to strong to follow... seems about right...":O}

Before I retire from public life I worked various menial jobs, taught Martial Arts, became a welder till that died with the economy in the 80's.

Then, I felt I received a calling , though at the time it seemed very much like a life sentence to me. The first 15 years were very hard for me. To be still, enforced quite is very dangerous and can lead evil consequences.

When we are still what wishes to move us becomes visible and the war begins...

As I left the fray with most of me intact, I guess I found a way of peace that is without compromise of my basic principles. My peace is an inner peace, as that's the only peace there is. My peace, like all peace consists of always being ready to return to war when fundamental principles become threaten.

My peace is provisional and very high maintenance. So I try to maintain it...it beats the hell out of despair! LOL

BTW how do you spell "peace" I've tried everything and my spell check is useless this time!

OFF TOPIC:
Aedan! Did you know there is a Live version of Phoronic, yeah you probably did! LOL

But I didn't until today, downloading it now. Might this be The Linux benchmark approach that's imperveiouse to the variations of Linux? It boots from a DVD or USB (downloading it now.) Doesn't need a harddrive or OS...Basically a benchmarking Linux in itself...

Thanks for showing me Phoronix!

No, I didn't know! It makes sense to have a live version if you want consistency across platforms. That'd be good for testing and comparing hardware.

That's a bit weird. The MAC address is normally burnt into the network card.

If you do need to know (and I'm not convinced that you necessarily do), then you can get it from your normal OS. Open a terminal window and type "ifconfig" - you'll get a bunch of stuff, like :

Code:
:~$ ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:0c:29:54:b0:4f
          inet addr:192.168.79.129  Bcast:192.168.79.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::20c:29ff:fe54:b04f/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:51 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:84 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:6585 (6.5 KB)  TX bytes:12983 (12.9 KB)
          Interrupt:19 Base address:0x2024
The thing you're looking for is the hex number after the HWaddr bit. In the case above it would be 00:0c:29:54:b0:4f.
