Hey all

Been reading here awhile and thought I'd finally sign up. I transferred my folding comps to the AOA team. Here's what I've got running:

Athlon XP 1600+
PIII 1000 laptop
Good 'ole Celery 300@450

One question- I just added folding to the laptop, and it gets HOT (moreso than normal), even on top on the keyboard. I keep the fan/exhaust clear, but it belongs to my work, and I don't need to be burning anything out. Any danger? Thx.

Tal

Folding works the CPU 100% all the time, so it will get hotter. If you keep the notebook in a cool place, well ventilated, you should be ok... but extra heat is always a bad thing when it comes to computers. There are no guarantees.

I knew it would run hotter than normal, but it suprised me how warm the keys got. I always keep the vents clear, even before F@H. I was just wondering if anyone had problems with a laptop as opposed to a normal box.

Oh well... I'll keep folding on it. It's still under warranty

Welcome to team AOA! I'm glad you decided to join us.

We are doing our best to keep our position in the ranks, and we need all the help we can get. Thanks for helping us and Stanford out!

As for the laptop, I've been folding on my laptop for six months or so. It goes very hot as well, so I sometimes shut it off to cool down. No guarantees, but mine still works fine..

I was actually QUADRO posting (something messed up, and *someone* pressed the "submit" button too many times LOL), but I got 'em deleted...

Strap a fan on to augment the exhaust? if its simply taped on it would be simple to remove when you have to return the laptop!

Thank you for joining our little folding team. We're small compared to some of the big guns out there, but we make up for it with heart. Great to have you as a part of our little group.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I've had a Duron laptop folding for long periods without a hitch. That thing used to get seriously hot after a day or so, but it's still tickin' so I'm not worried.
