Thumbs up All my Games now Work in Windows 7 Ultimate!

This is what Vista should have been to begin with.

Anyways on another note: Because this system is running DX11 none of my games will run on it!!!
Not even in compatible mode! It just tells me I'm either missing the dx9 or dx10 dlls.
Don't know how to fix this yet but I'm sure there will be work arounds for it in the near future once
more people start complaining about not being able to do it...
For this reason alone I'm going to have to go back to XP...I needs my games!!!

Edit: Seems this isn't the case with ALL my games...oops.
HalfLife 2 is running on it.
One other point, all my games are on a separate partition so I'm just sending the shortcut to the desktop...
This worked in both XP & Vista without re-installing the games on the OS's...but this seems to be a problem with W7.
So I can now play HL if I want!

I don't want to loose the ability to play games on my main rig and therefore I'm thinking of installing it on my netbook. Specs are:-

1Gb Ram
Intel Atom 1.6Ghz
120gb HD

from wiki:-
"Windows 7 editions will include one for netbooks and sub-notebook computers, at least one for consumers, and at least one for enterprises"

Hopefully it should work. the only thing i'm afraid of is that drivers only exist for XP atm. I'll let you guys know how i got along.
Problems Solved!!! I now can play all my games!
So what was the fix? I downloaded & ran the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer (dxwebsetup) form the MS download site to see what would happen & let it do it's thing.
It installed DX9/10 on my computer & there's no conflicts at all & all my games play great now!
Apparently this OS can use all 3 DX versions as it still says it's got DX11 in dxdiag.

The first games I tested were the errors show above in my quote when trying to launch the games.
Yay! I knew there had to be a fix for this...

Thanks Ice! I'm pretty good with troubleshooting problems, especially when it involves my games!
I gots to have my games!!!
The gaming performance of the OS is very good & not much less than XP!
That's great considering it's DX11 compatible!
Yea, I'm really liking W7 now even more.
Oh btw, I installed the Nvidia Vista Geforce 180.48 graphics drivers with no problems at all!

Not sure what you mean.
Is this the Vista OS on another drive partition you are talking about? (Dual Boot cfg)
If so then you more than likely have to install a OS selector for that.
I can see every drive I have in my system in W7 with no problems accessing them at all.

Some XP drivers will work on Vista, but since this is an upgraded Vista kernel your best bet is to use Vista drivers for it.
That's what I did & they work well with W7.

To give them a try, rightclick on the driver installation package & click properties, then choose Windows XP SP2 for the compatibility & click Apply & see what happens.
They will either install or it won't.

You need to customize it & uncheck the box that says use Large Icons & then the whole start menu will be much smaller & fit a ton more program listings in it as well.
Just rightclick on it & choose Customize.

Yea, that's the download link I used too.

Go to the main Windows 7 site and register to get the key on this webpage OK.
Just complete the form like you are going to download the W7 file (Select the language & bit version you want & click Go) & they give you a Key on the following webpage that opens before you even have to click the link to start the download.
Hurry as the number of keys available are limited...

Download the Windows 7 Beta

Arrow Remove Send Feedback

Once you've done as much of sending feedback to MS that you want to on this beta you can remove that link that's on every window you open. I'm pretty much done with that as I've already sent in about 5 different reports on glitches, compatibility problems & the like.

So I removed it...(Notice no more feedback at the top righthand corner)
Screenshot below says it all.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Desktop\
Click Modify, then change the FeedbackToolEnabled 3 to 0 and reboot & it's gone.

Another reg tweak I always do is remove the shortcut arrow from the desktop icons.
I hate those things as they cover half of the desktop icons & are just ugly...
(See how much cleaner it looks on my desktop with the shortcut arrows gone)

1. Open Regedit Start -> Run -> type regedit

2. Navigate to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT -> lnkfile (LNKFILE)

3. Delete the following key "IsShorcut"

4. Close REGEDIT and Restart your computer.

And this one I can't live without!
Move to Folder in the rightclick context menu!

Use this path: HKCR\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandl ers\

Then create a KEY called MoveTo.
Then modify the Value & add this to it & you now have it in your menu! Value: {C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

After applying these tweaks it is necessary for you to RESTART your machine so the new settings take effect.

Just got the CD-Key and am starting the download. As I don't game, and I'm curious, I went with the x64. We will see how it does.

I've installed W7 x64 and so far almost nothing has gone right. Any self installing .exe program won't install because it can't write the temparairy file.
A lot of programs w7 says are carrupt. on every re boot it goes to chkdsk but it does it on the C:\ drive and it willrun in a loop. It wouldn't transfer my bookmarks. There is more but it's only been installed for 3 hrs or so.
I'm going to wipe my F:\ drive and run verify i's ok [ I did that before install on a light basis-this time i gets the whole shebang thrown at it! Then I'll install agian!
Back to 'ol XP Pro
