NPD Analyst Says Windows 7 Pricing is "Way Too Much"

Analyst lavishes both praise and criticism on Microsoft

Jason Mick (Blog) - June 26, 2009 9:10 AM

Microsoft announced its Windows 7 pricing yesterday, and today began accepting preorders for the new OS. The preorder program in the U.S. offers a cheaper OS than Vista or XP, with the Home Premium upgrade only costing $49.99. Yet some analysts are looking at the glass half empty and have gone on the record to publicly reprove Microsoft.

After reading the article, I continued to read the comments below and I believe I can go back to when I "upgraded" from 98SE to ME and if you just change the year and the OS, it's the same with every release Microsoft puts out.
The is one difference this time, I think they finial got it right. I don't think there will be to much arguing that Win 7 is the best they have ever done. This OS is good.
On that basis, I don't think the price is to high. The only reason it's to high is I don't have the money!

Thumbs up Agreed Mike...

Apparently Jason Mick hasn't taken any time using this new OS or he would think the price is very good considering the OS you're getting!
This is by far the BEST OS Windows has ever put out & they've put the hours into it & this time listened to what the customers wanted as well.
So what do you end up with?
The best OS with the features the customer wants without the bloat at a reasonable price...

Personally after using it since January I LOVE this new OS & won't be going back unless I absolutely have to because of money restrictions & running out of time on this Evaluation build I'm using now...

I've a HDD just sitting naked and Mint 7 on the way in. I was going to put another OS on it any way-Mint 7 intrigues me.

Something I know you'll like... Mint has a Hard ware drivers installer...works great for nivida haven't tried ATI so I'm unsure weather it's covered...but this is a big move toward simplified driver installs...":O

Something went wrong. I burnt the .iso with power ISO verifying files. I booted to the disk and got a nice graphic which changed to HEX and I have let that run for over an hour. without the install giving me any input at all-then running a hex display for that long-something ain't right. I rebooted and here I am. I'll try a different burn tomorrow-but i do want to take a look at this.

I'd go for the 32 bit version as the more stable...I downloaded from the "direct Download" option on the 7 page...

On 64 bit:

"x64 Edition

This edition supports the X86_64 architecture and it is optimized for 64bit processors. Note that the Main Edition (which is 32bit) is usually more stable and it also supports 64bit processors."

That's what I have installed-It installs quicker than Win 7, So far, the only driver is the video card-I have to look for the system drivers.within 15 minutes of install, I was listening to K.D. Lang Watershed and was actually shocked at how much better the headphones sounded. It was sharp and clear and beautiful! and all I did was show the player where the music directory was.
On error so far. When I imported settings from windows, it brought the bookmarks over but all the directories are empty!. That should be east to fix, just haven't had the time

The only extra driver Mint needed after install was the Nvidia driver. I still haven't had time to poke around much-I need windows to do a lot of what I'm doing and it just takes to long to boot into mint and figure out how to do some thing when there are so many things to do.
Solution: I just installed it on the laptop- now Maybe I can break off for a little bit.
Each time i do something in it , i start to remember more.
This is nice and once I start to remember the basic Linux stuff, it will be a lot nicer. Gates might not get to order super-sized because of me. I might be moving over to Mint!
lots to learn and a lot to remember but Mint makes it a lot easier. If I could take some dedicated time, it wouldn't take very long at all.

I've been a Fedora guy for a while now....Lately I've been booting Fedora to install updates and stay current...Faithless lover that I am, I use Mint exclusively now...it's so damn easy and straight forward with more Gems than South Africa! ":O}

I wonder if it's the cynic in me that wonders about the timeing and the name and the same changes in the OS al at the same time. Win 7-easiest & best Windows. Mint 7-easiest Linux, I can't judge the other. Both out roughly at the same time.
I wonder how much market share Gates will lose to Mint?
Cynical? Me? No way!
