You DO realize that there are commercial applications for Linux, and there are lots and lots of free applications for Windows?

As Richard Stallman and the Free Software Foundation frequently point out, the GPL and the Open Source Software movement are not about making software free (as in beer), but free (as in freedom).

The fundamental difference between Open Source and Closed Source software is that with Open Source, you have the right to receive the source code to the application and modify it in whatever way you desire for your own use. You aren't at the mercy of the application publisher to get it working the way you want it to.

The fact that much Open Source software is also very low cost is just a nice bonus.
