Officially on board the Win 7 crew

I finally got a copy and successfully installed Windows 7.
And.... just like my Vista Ultimate.... I didn't spend a penny!
Apparently Microsoft has a new site called MSDN Academic Alliance Software Center where as a student/instructor I can download ISO files for many programs and operating systems for free.
I have to use my ITT-Tech email.
I got: Windows 7 Professional, Windows Vista Business & Windows XP Professional.
They give you a license number too.
Thats not all....
You can also download many other programs by Microsoft
Great Stuff! So now I can learn Windows 7.... finally
MSDN Academic Alliance

I'm sure you are going to learn to love this new OS the same as I do!
With W7 the search box actually works & brings up the program you are looking for really fast!

I'll send you some of the tweaks I use as they come in really handy for fast access times navigating around W7 such as the desktop rightclick shortcut menu tweak & Take Ownership of an object.

Also, use the Library for all of your folder shortcuts as this make it very easy to find what you are looking for very quickly! Screenshot below...

Try not to pin too much stuff to the taskbar as it will slow down your bootup times...
I got 7 frequenly used programs pinned myself.

I havn't really messed with the library yet.... but I see its potential.
I like the new taskbar views and I usually pin my programs to the start menu.
I'm really liking it so far. I allready turned off the UAC

UAC, go to:
Start, Control Panel (All Control Panel Items), User Accounts and at the bottom is "Change User Account Control Settings"
Just move the slider to "never notify"

Looks like boo beat me to this post & gave you your answer
but there's a quicker easier way of accessing UAC though.
Just type in the Search box UAC and hit Enter & it goes directly to it!
Too simple huh! LOL

Unlike XP or Vista, Windows 7 search function actually works really well & is quite useful.
Also make use of the Library folder in the taskbar & place all your shortcuts to your data folders there for quick & easy access.
Example of mine below in the screenie.

I also got a lot more tweaks to speed up navigation & other stuff for Window 7 as well if you want them such as the rightclick desktop context menu shortcuts for Control Panel, Device Manager & Software. (below screenie)
Just ask boo about that.

No, don't ask me....
ask MUff1N
He's quite the Windows 7 guru...
I'm too new at 7 and am learning quickly. I do like the login screen plugin and the ownership menu.
Otherwise, I still need to install some games and see how Windows 7 will treat them

much of what I use my computers for is Folding. that can be done with Linux based systems. the same can be said for Internet use.
commuting and work use up 13 hours of my day. not much left. I check each machine twice daily, visit AOA, newegg (always looking at the stuff) and a very small amount of time on e-mail and/or the social network.
so far 7 is just the next step in desktop os's.

Unless the game complains or doesn't launch, don't use compatibility on it boo.
But if need be just rightclick on the launch.exe of the game, then click compatibility & choose what it runs best on like XP SP3, Vista, etc.

I have very few games that don't want to work with W7 64bit...

Awesome! it worked for me perfectly until my hard drive died. I could hear a clunk, clunk sound... so I shut it down and used my USB adapter to get critical files off of it.
Now I just need an extra hard drive to install Windows 7 again.
