I get the impression that Microsoft doesn't want Operating Systems to last 10 years anymore (aka Windows XP)
So when will they stop supporting Windows 7?
So far its my favorite Operating System

I can imagine, that Windows 8 is just Windows 7, essentially, but with some new features, e.g. USB 3.0.

It should mean that MS would be able to roll out updates and patches for both 7 and 8, without much additional work.

I think most Windows sales are via new PC sales. They don't need to worry too much about people not upgrading Windows on their existing PC.

Most of all, this new version allows PC retailers to say "Comes with Windows 8".

sounds like another marketing scheme to get companies to buy more computers.
The school I work for is nation-wide and they are STILL using windows XP...
its pretty sad, but by the time they upgrade, windows 10 will be out.

Windows XP makes sense if the hardware is the same age.
