or you can just save yourself time and nerves

IT's called Xbox 360!
Buy it cheap,
plug it in the powersocket,
connect the HDMI to your HDMI TV input using the HDMI cable,
grab a beer from the fridge,
select your desired game with the wireless gamepad,
Alan Wake or Halo4
and just sit in your comfy chair/couch and play!
When normal people (as oposed to linux geeks) will want to kill themselves they will try installing linux and playing games under linux.

That's the thing about really looking for God...It really doesn't matter so much where you look... as that you look in awe...That you search in fear and trembling, after all...you just might find what your looking for! Dread mon, very Dread.

Chris, distros aren't in competition! They help each other out all the time, they share practically everything. There's a reason for their diversity, they are trying to do different specific things for their users.

Scientific Linux, engineering Linux, Teaching Linux, Music Linux and on and on to suit and fit every need.

You and I are only interested in the desktop, But Linux does so much more it boggles the mind.

You want desktop standardization. To a limited degree so do I! But Diversity is the future of that standardization.

So here we are at the beach on a long peninsula . On one side the roaring Ocean filled with the chaos of creation. On the other side a peaceful bay filled with small sail boats.

Everything in that bay came from Ocean, but it's the bay side we find so useful.

Find the right Linux and it will take you home and protect you from the Ocean storm where all we have in Linux was once born.

The debate here seems to center around the question...Do we yet have the "right" Linux? Will we ever?

For me it has arrived. I look forward to its continued development...I like to be Amazed! ":O}

Obviously for many it hasn't and for some of those, it looks like it may never satisfy. They look out to sea and the storm rages as violently as ever!!

I see and read the storm warnings! But I'm also drawn to count the Sails, they grow more numerous each day... So while the storm may rage, there is safe harbor... A place to sail and fish in limited danger.

We need both the stable and the instability that gave it birth.

OH! You mean that old thing the PS3 replaced?

Yeah I have a PS3, no complaints other than Sony Sucks nearly as hard as MS.

In Linux, I'm More interested in getting games to play properly than I am in playing most of them. For me, Games in Linux IS the Game I'm playing.":O}

You all know my answer to that!
I refuse to buy a $500 HD TV and I would need 6 XBoxes to host LAN Parties and 6 copies of each game...
What a mess!
Everyone else who only has one computer and its used for internet/email would be happy with a console for games.
I totally see the benefits of a console, but I am a totally different machine with a totally different environment.

But my long term goal is a free computer, free games and easy (enough) to use

As long as Mint keeps up the stablilty, support and compatibility, you will continue to be a regular church member.

By the way, create a Mint account on their community page and rate/review the products in the Software Manager. Its a great way to do-your-part to support good applications.
Good one. Will do!

I kinda like this debate because its an interesting time for Operating Systems.
Phones and Tablets are changing everything in the industry at home and the workplace.
At the same time its forcing developers to be creative so computers are interesting and competitive enough for us to keep using them.
I have to admit it... little flat computers with super high definition graphics that go anywhere... thats cool.
I can't afford them, but one day I'm sure the 3 year old tablets & phones will be in huge supply and people will be willing to give them away.
That is how I get most of my PC parts. Because everyone seems to have a spare computer or laptop and don't know what to do with it.
I'll take it!

Bill should make toilets instead - he's halfway there with the Xbox 360.

It looks like a rushed high school art project to me, without the freshness of originality...
