Well, there's a couple of issues. Firstly you can't actually purchase Windows 8 for $15. You have to purchase a new PC AND a copy of Windows 7 (Windows 7 Starter Edition doesn't count). Secondly, only in the US can you get an upgrade for US$15 + computer + Windows 7. Everywhere else is more expensive - UK, is ?15 (US$19), EU is €15 (US$18.70), AU is AU$14.99 (US$15.75) and NZ is NZ$19.99 (US$16.25).

Based on the cheapest new machine I can find in the UK, the actual cost of the upgrade would be ?194 .

Tough to imagine that it would be. 7 is stable, easy to use, and practically crash-free in my experience. Personally, I've absolutely no desire to upgrade.

That's a bit more than I'm use to spending on an OS.

And I would want to play Mario...Why?

When I started looking around for benchmarks a few weeks ago I wasn't all that hopeful, now just a few weeks later I have so many bench marks I don't have time to properly evaluated them,,, probably not qualified to do so in any case...

But finding bench marks won't be that big a problem, at lest at this point it doesn't look as if it will.

Chris, you don't actually believe world will long tolerate having anyone control what it uses as an OS?

The world has begun porting to Linux....Why?

Because MS does not sadisfy the needs of the world. The world has already left the building! The world is off looking for something to replace Windows with and, the world will find a way to get what it wants.

Just you watch Surface becoming more and more popular after it's out, then we will talk about who left the building :)

The more popular it is, the dirtier it gets...Jam Jar anyone?

Most who labour do so with their hands... Have you ever noticed the keyboards in garages? Good thing they don't have to touch their monitors with those hands hey!
