NEW BETA Windows client 5.92

NEW 5.92 beta Windows SMP client FOR 32-BIT OSes (Windows XP/2003/Vista/2008) ONLY is now available using new implementation of MPI for greater stability:
Folding@home - DownloadWinOther

READ THIS FIRST, from the developer - the installation is a bit complex:
Folding Forum - View topic - New Windows SMP client release

In brief, the new client claims to be significantly more stable. Speed was not the aim of this beta; the speed is about the same as 5.91. But the new MPI implementation should go a long way towards eliminating much of the client startup problems, stalling, crashing, etc. I have not tried it as yet but will report when I do and have time. Some of you will prolly get to it before me, so post your experiences back here in the SMP thread when you do, for everyone's benefit - when you have time.

Sam- didja ever get on that new SMP client version, and if so, how is it going?

Here's the definitive thread for 5.92 feedback:
Folding Forum - View topic - Windows 5.92 SMP client--please post feedback here

I'll be back in business in a week or two, so I'm interested in how you made out.

Robert, I did not. It is finally working so well now I do not want to screw it up. I did have to reinstall my rig which is why I have dropped in the daily PPD. I will catch back up soon.

Hey...I broke 800K last night....woo hoo

again, it's a matter of time. time to work out the process and get it running. it sounded easier to set up than the first one.
I took a chance and killed a unit @ 44% to try it. I wasn't successful. not having the patience of Job, I went back to the installer for the time being. I want to run the SMP client. it needs to be easier for this farm boy.

I'll be back in about 7-10 days and I'm gonna give it a shot. My Opteron rig runs well on the current version but I want to see if there is any real benefit for me (and you guys) in going to this new one.

I'll install it and see if I can break it. Then I'll post what I find and see if I can help some of you that still have stability problems on 5.91.

Wish I could get to it sooner but some unexpected stuff with the boat has had me away from home longer than I expected. I'll try to hurry up.

I am just happy to have the current version stable and reliable. I really do not want to mess with it.

it's always unexpected and costly. good luck. of course you know that a 'boat' is a hole in the water into which you pour vast amounts of money.

In this case more time than money- but time is money, isn't it?

@ Sam- great that you have the client working well, but the bad news is, we're all gonna have to move to this new one sooner or later, when the old one expires. I'll try to find out when.

But when you have to upgrade you don't want to run into all sorts of issues....maybe start testing it while the old one is still there, and reliable?

Given any more thought to folding under linux through a VM? It's worth 8-10% ppd.

Time to make it happen... Not lately.

I will try to set aside some time to try this.
